And I'm looking for suggestions.  I had my eye on a Lamson Litespeed until I read comments that they don't do so good in saltwater even when properly cleaned after use.  Rats!

What would you suggest?

If you are considering Avet, left hand reel,  I have one I bough from another forum member.
I have not realized it was a lefty until I got it. All my conventional reels are right handed so this feels awkward to me.
The reel is as I bought it, still in the shipping box...here is the link to classifieds

Galvan Torque. Expensive but I've been using one in the salt for over 15 years with no problems. EVERY other reel I've ever used in the salt has frozen up, no matter what it was 'rated' for.

Galvan rates them for saltwater use one of those "shootout" shops said, erroneously, the drag isn't fully sealed.  I had a Torque 8 for a while but I had problems with my line stacking-up on the spool.  Totally my fault - I never could get my spare fingers working to guide the line when cranking it back in quickly.

Thank you,Bill.  They're easily the best reasonably-priced fly reel out there, and maybe the best at any price.

(And for everyone else: thank you.  I appreciate that you took the time to give me your answers, but hint, hint: this is the Fly Fishing forum.   :smt003 )

Hint, Hint..... the majority of us didn’t bothered to look at the Daisy chain at the top of the fly fishing “Thread” on a kayak fishing “Forum” we’re Neanderthals we seen “Reel” and “Saltwater”  :smt044

I'm happy to see you finally agree we fly-flingers really are the elitist pricks living on Mt. Olympus that we think we are.  Pfff-ft!

Redington Behemoth. Affordable and won't break the bank. It's not sealed, but if you don't get sand in it, it's got a pretty hefty drag. The other option is the new TFO BVK which is now fully sealed.

The guys at Headwaters prolly have some great insight and observations, I’d inquire there for info. BTW, I’d (we’d) like to hear, too!

Thank you, I'll give it a shot.  Most of the recommendations from the fly-fishing elite are for expensive reels - I failed to get it across to them that I'll be in a kayak in the ocean and $2,000 (or more) of fly gear is never going along with me until my Powerball ticket pays off or Bill Gates gives me half of his fortune.  :smt009

The exception to those recommendations was the Orvis Hydros SL.  Close, but still not a cheap fly reel, at least it's nothing like what Hatch and Abel (and a few others) cost.

I'll let you know what I learn from Headwaters.

Other than some worn out clicker pegs that were quickly replaced under warranty, I’ve had no problems with the Redington grande. It’s been out through the paces and not always well mantiained (not neglected either)
