Decided to give the Smith one more try.  Was supposed to hit it Friday, but as i went to sleep Thursday night I could hear a cloud burst and I knew it would be blown out...it was!

Punted to Honey-Do's on Friday to free up Sunday.  The flows dropped, but they were still not ideal.  However, with time running out, I gave it one more go as a Freddie-style one day marathon.

Left the house at 0400 armed with needed supplies...

The spot I have been anchoringwith Mahi was still WAY underwater so it was time to get creative.  Tried working it from another angle by lower my yak down a hill/cliff.  I fell a few times in the process so I am leaning towards the cliff designation.

Once down and on anchor I was able to set up on this gorgeous seam.  The kwikfish swam amazing here and it WAS in the zone....but not takers.

After the fish mocked my plug I tried everything else for about 5 hours.  No love.  Then it started to rain.  It was getting SUUUUPER cold even with fleece pants and Mysterioso socks under my waders.  Time to go.

Getting back up the hill was a beotch and involved falling down a few more times.  The view was worth the effort though...

Ran into some locals as I carted through open country.  They gave me the look. :smt104 For now, its time to put AOTY aside and focus on the getting in shape, my business, and most importantly the family.   That said...ChuckE...I am out brother, you can kill ducks without sweating it.  If I can't win it, glad you can, youv'e been at this a LONG time.

See you guys at Monte in January!

I sure wish Friday would have worked out, I had the feeling we may have been on some fish, maybe trying the lower section again.

Once again, my condolences for yesterday. I would have loved to have been there with you. I grove around with my trainee yesterday waiting for my phone to ring and explode with your voice saying, "I landed a 35 pounder...ChuckE's got some catching up to do". But, no love.

Great story!

CHEERS!

Scwa- I was there, we should have hooked up I left friday but saturday would have been nice too. That rivers fishes best according to the local guides during and right after the rain. You can still pull a winner out of the south fork eel without the long drive. I'll guide if you want one more run at it.

Sean brutha', you tried man! You still got to be on the Smith and the chance is always there for an epic fish, or memory.
A nice silver steely will quickly get you turned around...
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Sean-

If you going down... go down swinging. You're still on the podium though... That 1 point between us may as well be 100 right now. I've got to see that place in person though... next year. Sweeeeeeeeeet pics... Even for me... that's just too much of a drive from San Jose.

You've put in the time so the fish will come sooner or later.... although if I caught the fish you did I'd be freakin STOKED!!! Actually, I think most of the AOTY fishermen/women ripped me to shreds. WTG everyone!! That was exciting. :beer2
