That’s from the state of Connecticut, taxifornia is a bit different.

“Generally, every sail-powered vessel over eight feet in length and every motor-driven vessel (regardless of length) that is not documented by the U.S. Coast Guard which is used or on the waters of this state are subject to registration by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). “

Here I was thinking I was being all smart.  That will teach me to post before coffee.

Not a total loss. If I get stopped I now know to tell them that I just moved from CT.
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

I purchased my AI in 2012. I never registered it until this year because I don't sail. I paid $560 for my registration. I was hit with late penalties for year 2012 to 2018 because I told DMV the truth about when I purchased the kayak. They do not care if you've never used the kayak for sailing in the past. You pay for the reg since the day it was purchased. DMV does not care and makes no attempt to understand the situation.  :smt013

Don't be so sure. I specifically asked Keith at CCK during the time of purchase whether I need to register the AI. He told me NO at that time.

Sorry for the threadjack Eddie. I'll shut up now.

I've been looking at the form and I will claim "new" even though the purchase date is 2015.  It is "new" as a sailboat and was never built for a sail.  The sail was built for it.  Hope it works.

No worries brah...whatever evolves is relavant regarding this relationship between the wind and the state...I am glad to know what I may be up against, thought it was just my wife that was considering a fee of waf points but everyone wants a piece.  I was driving up the freeway and preaching to myself that some fish and crab are gonna die for this... :smt005 :smt006

I built a 15 ft racing sailboat decades ago and had to register it, which I expected.  Then I got a "Personal Property Tax Statement", so I had to pay yearly PP taxes on it, which weren't much, but still a PITA.  But I think at some point they either eliminated boats from PP tax, or the County figured it had depreciated to zero and didn't tax me anymore.   Some years after that, I gave it away after trying to sell it (It was in good shape, but sailing had gone out of style then.), but if I still had it, maybe I'd fit it with outriggers and rodholders!

I have to pay a stinkin yearly tax to the county on everything I own in my salon that I already paid for many years ago.  Strange...

What ever keeps the the peace of mind. Pacific Warrior You...

Personally I wouldn't mind getting an AI, trying to get away from a trailer... I just want to load up and go.

We are really going to the platform in SPB...
