I'm trying to design a method of attaching my Hobie wheels to my large 160 qt cooler, so that I can wheel 150lbs of herring off to my car without breaking my back. The best I can think of is to hard mount (via drilling) two pieces of PVC pipe to one end of the cooler, spaced such that the wheel posts will fit.

Obviously drilling through a cooler is an issue, but if I use a gob JB Weld to seal the hole on the inside and outside, wouldn't that more or less keep the cooler functional?

Any other thoughts on how to attach wheels to it?
Thanks,
Andrew

Why not just lay the cart down flat, set the cooler on it, then strap through the cart (side to side and maybe front to back if it needs it). Put the strap on before the last hinge/latch so it doesn't slide back when you're pulling it.

How about a cooler with wheels already built in?
If you're carrying 100+ lbs in the cooler, then I would think drilling holes into the plastic would make it a structurally weak area.  I'd get a flat board with casters (think furniture type wheel carts) and latch it onto the cooler rather than drilling.

Don't mess with the cooler.
Build a crate that it will set in. Fit the wheels to the crate.
That way you can design the crate exactly how it needs to be instead of being limited to screwing up your cooler.  :smt002

Attach 2 sections of pvc/schedule 80 to the cooler, spaced apart the same distance as the scupper posts.

Drill holes in the end of two 2x4s. Slip them onto the wheels. Then attach horizontal braces to keep the 2x4s stable. Set the cooler on the 2x4s and use it like a wheelbarrow. Strap it on if necessary.

I like this idea. Thanks!

Saw someone just slide pipe over  the two prongs and turn cart into wheel barrow. It worked!

I’ve never owned one so I can’t say for sure. Depending on how heavy the load was, would it make a difference if the load is pressing down as designed instead of sideways?
