I do salmon mooching off of stinston beach and alot of people use FF
Any any suggestions?

One that doesn't corrode prematurely at the connector pins. Even washed and greased some just do not last more than one or two seasons. I just ordered a combo FF/GPS on ebay...  Humminbird 580i no tax and free shipping. Hope it last a few years.
For mainly salmon mooching you will want one good enough to pick up the bait balls. Some of the $150-$200 units work pretty good for that. But watch out for the one's with small pins where they plug in. And keep them greased (dielectric grease).

my humminbird matrix 12 has those small pins you speak of. i hope your 580i does not.
