You can do all that stuff and it’s probably a good idea but through the 70-80s I caught shitloads of fish on nose-hooked bait, no knots or threaders

My numbers were way higher than trolling but also I fished hot bites back then too

If I go back to mooching I will probably tie up dbl hook rigs if that’s legal and thread them

I use the same rig for everything but rockfish; they will hit anything.
Six oz banana weight, four foot leader, pop-sickle hooked sideways through the nose, and a free swinging stinger hook be it a single hook or treble (reg dependent).
It's all about presentation, no so much what is at the end of your line.
