Hello fellow NCKAers,

I just purchased a brand new Shimano Trevala 6’6” M spinning rod. It’s still in the packaging with all tags and what not. I’ve decided to go with the MH version and sadly TackleDirect doesn’t cover the shipping on returns. So, I’ve decided to sell it for a loss instead of paying the astronomical shipping costs.

$110.

Update: No Longer Available.

General Fishing Tips / Off-Season Leopard Shark Fishing??
« on: January 22, 2019, 01:05:32 PM »
I'm thinking about taking some friends leopard shark fishing. They don't have a lot of fishing experience and I just wanted something relatively easy and fun for them. I know that leopard shark season is from the summer to fall but I'm wondering if the bite is still okay out of season. I'm thinking about either Bolinas Lagoon or Blackies Pasture. Thoughts?

General Fishing Tips / Making Sense of Conflicting Weather Forecasts
« on: January 18, 2019, 02:49:16 PM »
Hello y'all

I'm planning to trek out to the HMB jetties either on Saturday or Sunday, and I can't seem to make sense of these two contradicting weather forecasts.

On NOAA Marine is says "Saturday Variable winds 5 kt or less. Mostly cloudy. WNW swell 6 ft at 13 seconds becoming WSW. Wind waves around 1 ft." https://marine.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-122.48123&lat=37.49188

On the other hand, this article states that this weekend can see 25+ foot waves on the coast and jetties this weekend. https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/45-foot-waves-could-hit-Bay-Area-coast-Super-13544498.php?fbclid=IwAR2vRRvd2sYN4DfHuL1gYupMDCIMS_ypZyKdJ-x3T48CMkLxpZ8_npzAXsE

Any advice? I'd love to hangout on the jetties this weekend.

General Fishing Tips / 2oz weight overkill for drop shot?
« on: May 06, 2018, 07:13:35 AM »
I'm planning to use a drop shot rig for hali and I'm wondering whether 2oz is overkill. Should I just stick to 1 oz? It just seems so weird to me to be used so little weight from shore when usually 3+ oz pyramid weights are used for other rigs in Bay Area waters/conditions.

General Fishing Tips / Okuma SST for Jetties?
« on: April 30, 2018, 02:27:41 PM »
This might be a stupid question but can the Okuma SST (medium 8'6") be used for jetties? Planning to just use it to throw out some swimbaits. Line Weight: 8-17 lbs. Lure Weight: 1/4-5/8 oz. I figure if it can handle a salmon it can handle some rockfish?

General Fishing Tips / Surf rods for shore hali/stripers
« on: April 25, 2018, 04:03:09 AM »
Sadly, I’ll be shore bound until I get my new kayak next month. I’ve been out fishing a few times since and I just don’t have the gear needed to reach the spots I can from a yak. Does anyone have any recommendations for surf rods $100 or less? Currently looking at a few Penn rods and a Fiblink. I’d like to be able to use it for primarily stripers and halibut.

General Fishing Tips / Shimano Trevela for non-jigging
« on: April 24, 2018, 01:54:13 PM »
I'm looking to take a step up from my Ugly Tiger Stik (spinning 7' med) to something else. I understand that the general consensus in this situation would be the Shimano Trevela. I know it's a jigging rod but is it also perfectly fine for bait soaking?

I'm also looking for a rod to use on the HMB jetties if anyone has ideas.

General Fishing Tips / Emeryville Marina/Pier any good?
« on: April 23, 2018, 01:42:06 AM »
Unfortunately, I'll be stuck to shore fishing until after finals so I've been trying to find new spots. The Emeryville Marina/Pier looks really cool and convenient. I haven't heard a thing about it but the one time I went there I got skunked. But then again, it was my first time fishing since I was a kid haha. I looked on Fishbrain but all of the catches are pretty dated or actually from a boat that docks there -_-

Does anybody have any insight into the Emeryville Marina/Pier?
