After an excellent few days chasing steelies on the Trinity, I got some intel on the Napa River. Never fished it before so I decided to give it go.

Perfect overcast morning, high tide coefficent,  but no top water activity. FF lit up at all likely places but nothing but dinks. Switched to a 6" clouser which helped a little bit keeping them off. Marks started disappearing as the sun got high so I was stopping at anything. Finally it lit up and I got a nice PB kayak striper on the fly, 32" 12lb. By the time I got it in I couldn't find the marks anymore.

Check it out if you get a chance lots of fish in the system, saw 2 trollers hook up on similar sized fish, all around midday, go figure. Keep moving and you will find them.

Thanks for the report. I've been thinking it's about time to make that first trip of the fall on the river, so your report makes me think it's time to go. Can't wait to get out there soon.

Nice, Ted! Thanks for the report. I used to hit the Napa at Cutting's all the time with my buddy in his pb. I never have fished it from my kayak.

Kennedy Park?

Yup, JFK park, fished between 29 and 121 bridges, rode the tide for an extra mph each way except for the last mile. Perfect for a kayak. Little boat traffic yesterday, just watch out for the jet skis that like to go 2 wide up the river.

Where the slough that forms horseshoe bend comes back into the main river was packed with fish but I couldn't get a keeper down there. Probably had a dozen dinks in about an hour.

I know that exact bend you are talking about.  Use to hit it with bullheads on my friend's boat.  Nice Fish!

Good sturgeon spot in the winter as well. You'll almost always find a boat anchored there on the outgoing during the season.

Nice Fish!  A dozen dinks in an hour sounds like fun as well.  Better than casting and stripping with no action in my little book.
