My first time out in a while. (Family issues have kept me busy). Best fish of the day was actually a largemouth, a bit over 4 lbs. Caught him on a smallish, gray/white clouser - similar to a fly that Scott Vaughn likes & uses (thanks for the tip, Scott). Caught quite a few stripers but all were sub-legal - some that were very sub-legal. Typical rig: 10' 8 wt with T14 head.

Fished the west side of Franks Tract. Water was very clear - easily 4' of viz., maybe more. That's what led me to use a smaller, lighter colored fly than I started with. Fresh breezes, puffy white clouds, blue skies - a great day to be out.

I'll be at the Striperfest this Sat. 11/5 at Sugar Barge Marina. I won't be fishing that day, though. It's a fundraiser for striped bass. Hope to see some other yakkers there.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the report.

I was wondering if you were going to make it to Striperfest.

I will be fishing, but might try and get on someones boat.  I hate kayaking alone out there.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Glad you got out Bill, sounds like it was a good day. Have fished from a boat the last 2 weekends and out in front of Lauritzen's to Big Break/sunken ship, and it has been good. If you can make it all the way to the tule island you will find fish somewhere on that flat. The first weedline that parallels that area was good too in front of little break. Last week we didn't get 30 to the boat like the previous weekend but quite a few scrappy 3-5lb fish before it shutdown around 11. Tons of boats out in Sherman last weekend but it was kinda slow for us, it had been very good out there.

Pic of a late night clouser I tied upside down (white over chart) on accident after a couple of beers and it was the hot fly, LOL. I guess on pause/drop it doesn't really matter.

tight lines!

nice looking fish, but it's pretty hard on the fish to hold them out like that by the jaw.

point taken, no more fish pics...

From what I hear it's just starting to heat up. I've been targeting Berryessa, and doing pretty well. Hope to hit the Delta next week.

Unclear her: Were you upside down or the fly?
