Well it's done, all that work. I am extremely happy! Thank You all for attending our first annual Lowrance Rockfish Classic. I have to admit I was a bit nervous about having this event at Anchor Bay due to the limited size of the campground. Well, everything turned out great and it seems like smiles and laughter were everywhere. Our sponsors really stepped up and we gave away almost $4,000.00 in cash and prizes.

For next year I have reserved the entire campground (Fri and Sat night), Saturday Nov 14th. I'll be working something out with Anchor Bay Campground. Once I have something set I will post it up.

I want to thank all the volunteers...

Jim(rockfish), James (Rider0 - my co-chairs did a great job as always!
Bill (FishingForTheCure) and fellow Lowrance Prostaff - Insight Genesis contest

Title: Possible MBF team event - Anchor Bay in Nov
Post by: fishkraft on June 13, 2014, 10:11:37 AM
Sounds fun. I'd be up for that. Seems like Anchor Bay might be an issue with regards to parking. Is there an area for day use parking?
Title: Re: Possible MBF team event - Anchor Bay in Nov

I've spoke to a gentlemen that owns a parking lot above the campground. He would give it to us free of charge as long as we don't trash it which isn't an issue with our group.

I also worked out a price to rent the entire campground but that's something to discuss later if we get enough serious interest. I imagine teams would camp together, making this a non traditional event or more of a bunch of buddies hangin out howling at the moon and rip'n lips for cash.

The groundwork is basically setup but again getting enough teams/anglers to commit would give it a green light.

How about a virtual tourney? Haven't done one of those for years. Then...if the WX is too rough for Anchor Bay in November, people can launch wherever is calm enough like Bodega, HMB, SC, Monterey, etc. Just throwing it out there because the WX can be sketchy in November. I would love to hit Anchor Bay though!

I like the idea and love Anchor bay. I think it would also be cool if a portion of the proceeds went to charity.Making it a feel-good thing.

Great idea! Would you be willing to organize and run a raffle for charity $$? In a perfect world it would be great if each team donated a raffle prize for the raffle.... thoughts?

I love fishing AB and I would want to fish the event. I think if I try to make this event mine some peeps might not like the fact of me fishing my own event. So this event should be a combination of everyone (all teams) pitching in and doing whatever needs to be done to make it happen and as fun as possible... I'll bring the shoes for the horse shoe tourney  :smt004.

Hey Rob, I think the teams dont have to be super specific. Maybe you can get together team HOW. I wish I could have Ray on my team, he's a verm catch'n macheen. I think the point is not to have guys building ringer teams for the most part.

Eric thanks! I think with positive attitudes like yours this thing will happen in a big way. Right on bro!

Why raffle? I was just thinking of a small portion of every entry going to a big cause. Just an idea.

That's a great idea. Would you like to handle that?

Giving money to a charity, especially a registered charity has a few limitations to it. I know you can't just give them a bunch of cash. I believe things need to be documented, ect. and that could make this MBF event complicated.

I just suggested a raffle because charity raffles happen all the time so it might be better or easier to do it that way. But then again I don't know exactly the legalities revolving around charity contributions through a raffle.

But before we starting thinking about what to do with $$ and all that, Let's just see what kind of commitment we can get based on the format... fun, fishing, hang out with your buds, bragging rights, win some beer money, MBF event.

I think any money generated should just go to PIF!!!  PIF needs all it can get to relieve the pressure from the family's in need vs dealing with all the legality bullshit with another charity when we already have a charity amongst us that is in need of more green backs.  just my personal opinion ofcourse......   I have a few contacts for some sponsor action, will fill you in later mike.   Lets do this.  why the F not, not much going on in Nov so lets put something together.    I think a deep fried turkey is in order

Not to stir the pot but what if we donated to something local. Like the gualala volunteer fire dept. then they know that we also support local good doers who will appreciate the event more. Just a thought.

I love the enthusiasm and spirit.   It really doesn't matter what we do with the $.  We aren't going  to raise that much to
make a dent in someone's  medical bill, or buy a new fire engine.  So, let's put it back into the local community--Let's buy turkeys from the local store and give them to the local food bank for Thanksgiving. No muss no fuss.
As for the teams, I think we should have a sliding scale based on age. :smt004   If the combined age of you team is over 110--you get 30 bonus points.  100--you get 15, 80--you get 10, 70--you get 5.  And if the combined age of your team is not over 69--well, you get spanked. :smt003

It's only bad if we attain donator apathy.  I'd rather see a few strong pushes, than too many pushes that peter out.  I tend to think we max out what people can donate and they just pick and choose events at the end of the day.  I do applaud all the good shit going on here.

And yes, you do "advertise with every post you make", but what does that have to do with anything?  The minimum wage (literally) that I make here isn't going to result in more donations from my pocket.  I'll donate what I can, but with more and more events, the same amount is just getting spread out more.

Well, I'm not suggesting that anyone donate any less, but if I reach my yearly budgetary limits on what to donate in a given year, another event isn't going to help me donate more.  But if it makes you feel any better, I'll donate an extra $20 at Albion.   :smt006

Great point Allen. I also don't think we NEED to have a charity, it's nice but I never made it part of the original plan. I never envision this event as a charity engine, I'm hoping CL events does some of that.

But if someone wants to take the reins on organizing everything needed to get the money from the teams to the charity with no hassles and everyone agrees 100% than be my guest.

No matter if we do or don't, I think this will be a really fun event with some serious bragging rights up for stakes.

Allen... Team KFM?

Maybe Sledge will bring the soft tub!!!!  I understand everyones pov on the charity notion, I'm still new on the block but feel strong for PIF,  and have donated every chance I can.  I guess its up for discussion for the next coming months which is ok to me.  Winter time is my slow down time for work! But bringing 4-5 turkeys or a few slabs of ribs to the fire house of gualala sounds like it bring a smile on some faces!! so I'm torn between the two!

All I know is ill be at Anchor the last weekend of the year!

i am more of a solo person,  as some here know, so i vote for single person, since i believe that it is money between friends, not money between teams, as in everything, i only rely on myself, not the contributions, if there are any, of others, this whole saftey in numbers is great and all, but it does not need to overflow into competition, sorry if this comes off bitter, but, if you are not comfortable on the blue alone, then maybe its time to either call it quits, or get more experience with a mentor before signing up for a saltwater comp, cameron

Crap can happen fast when alone on big blue no matter your experience level. From getting hit by a boat or landlord. Even a freak wave. If you feel so confident that your complacent about your safety. Fish alone all you want. Now to the tournament I think a four man team would be great. If you don't want stacked teams why not draw for teams. That way people get to know and fish with more people they may not know and make some new friends. If there isn't enough to fill one team the personal average of everyone who fished will be averaged to make up for the short person or persons. Maybe this could be discussed ay albion awards meeting.

Assigning teammates and potentially making somebody responsible for someone they don't even know is ridiculous.

This is starting to look like a single person event. Please vote if your interested in attending.
OK Lowrance has stepped up as the major sponsor with a 7HDI and possible Elite5 HDI. It's now called the Lowrance Rockfish Classic 2014.

Here is the format: I think it's challenging but fun.

Entry - $25

Category 1 - Rockfish
CPR with wristband
5 fish bag, one of each species.
Species - black, blue, copper, verm and china.
Points - 4 points per inch for all. 1/4" increments. That makes it easy.
You fill out your own CPR form and submit.
Winnings - Entry Fee Cash 50/30/20 split after all essentials purchased - pot luck items, wristbands, ect.

Bonus - Category 2 - Lingcod
weighed by scale
1 fish per person

Is Anchor Bay a doable launch for a Pro Angler or is it too far of a haul from the parking area.  The only place I've launched into the salt in NorCal is Timber Cove and its about perfect.

My wife has asked me not to sell my boat so I might be able to make this one.  I'd have to bring my oldest son though so I'm hoping for 2 man teams (although he'd be riding on the back of my PA rather than in a separate yak).

They have a platform that should allow you to launch your pa.

Awesome format...drove by it many times but have yet to fish it...texasboy mentioned giving tub away there...I'm for that, haven't pinned a date, was thinking towards end of Oct...but mid Nov gives more time to generate more funds for PIF!!!

I'm game on both being in tourney and giving tub away there!!!  Infact I sent a pm to PK few weeks ago about making an event (MBF) end of Oct at OC...I like the thought of AB and the event has taken on momentum!!! Just found this thread...Sounds like great times!!! Count me in...

Some volunteers still needed. Please step up. This is also a great way to meet new peeps:
- Create and collect reg/waiver/CPR forms - Mike aka Wingshooter
- Distribute wristbands the morning of - Kara aka The Wife
- Pot luck thread and setup (tables) Tony aka NovoFish and Eric aka Texasboy
- Tshirt design/orders (I have a super cool vendor who is dirt cheap)- Do we want t-shirts, how about beenies or long sleeve poly/breathable?
- Check in station - check CPR picts and weigh-in lings. Jim aka Rockfish, James aka Rider, one more?
- Awards - Someone loud and not too drunk- Pat aka Cen Coast
- Parking: need someone to help people park in the lot above the campground.
- Someone to run the RCG side bet - ?

Ok looks like we've got some volunteers who stepped up, awesome.

Camping - I just spoke to Tess at AB and it looks like sites are going fast. I think there is only 14 remaining so reserve now and share if you can. If we can fill the remaining sites we will receive $5 off for Sat and Sun.

Parking - There is free parking above the campground for extra vehicles tourney day. I hope we can have someone up there to direct traffic and keep it nice so everyone has room to enter and leave whenever they want. This is important.

Registration - I should have some registration up early next month. Check post #1 for recently added info.

Tourney Fees - $25 per will be collected the morning of at site #24 and you'll also get a wristband. 100% of All money collected besides purchase of potluck items like plates, napkins, ect. will go back to the winners - 50/30/20 split. So if we get 40 anglers, looking at almost a grand up for grabs.

Sponsors - step up Pro-Staff and help make the placements for this event deep! Prizes for the top ten in the Ling category would be sweet!

Yes. The north side of the campground beach (chicken cove) is the launch. They have a great picnic/social area right next to the fishing cleaning station where the awards will be held. It's not a huge campground so I would reserve now, I believe they only had 12 or so spots left last time I checked.

There is also Gualala River Redwood campground roughly 4 miles south of AB. I've never camped there but I've heard it's a nice place.  http://gualalapark.com/
Sea Ranch house rentals is also another option. They usually have specials in the off season. http://www.searanchgetaway.com/

I was recent talking to someone regarding the LRC. They asked me if there was any big rockfish in that area. I told him about a 10+ lb verm I caught and a 18.75" blue I caught roughly 3 miles from Anchor Bay. His reply was ... WHAT, A BLUE, NO WAY! It was delicious!

I expect to see some big rockfish for this event.... getting pumped.

Thanks Adam (ATD) for stepping up as a CPR judge.

Reg and waivers will be up next week.

You sure that was a blue? Looks like a black to me. You do know the difference in the mouth size. Right?
Title: Re: Lowrance Rockfish Classic 2014 - Anchor Bay 11/15
Post by: WingShooter on September 21, 2014, 08:33:21 PM
Positive. Yea, If you look at the jaw it falls closer to the front of the eye plus the face is more compact forward. Also the "football" look to the body, unlike a black which would look longer and not so stocky. I try to target these big blues specifically every time I go out meet hunting. The fillets are huge due to the fishes smaller head size compared to a black.  AB is loaded with biggies.
Title: Re: Lowrance Rockfish Classic 2014 - Anchor Bay 11/15
Post by: ravensblack on September 21, 2014, 08:39:58 PM
Its hard to see the exact approximation of the maxillary as opposed to the eye from that angle. not true about the football shape though. More distinguishing is the anal fin as they both are real different. Never ever seen a blue that big.
Title: Re: Lowrance Rockfish Classic 2014 - Anchor Bay 11/15
Post by: WingShooter on September 21, 2014, 08:54:10 PM
Here is a pict of a black and the blue.. The body is definitely different for each fish. Another way to tell is if you look at the "granite" like pattern on both fish, right behind the pectoral. The pattern on a blue always has larger "dot" markings unlike a black which has smaller "dot" markings.
Title: Re: Lowrance Rockfish Classic 2014 - Anchor Bay 11/15
Post by: ravensblack on September 21, 2014, 09:09:34 PM
Here are three different photos of a black rockfish. Notice the rounded anal fin. They also exhibit the blotchy granite markings you are describing as a Blue rockfish ID criteria. I could really know if the coloration was still fresh on the fish as the color gives it away completely when just out of the water. Its a great fish non the less. See you Saturday?

You need to bring your cart and wheel it to the north end of the beach.  I have launched straight out, but, you need really glassy conditions to do it.

What Jacks said. You will need some wheels and beach wheeleezs work best. You might be able to borrow some to get your yak to the launch.

Not sure the how many people are going to do this but if your not considering doing this event you should. Even if you might have to camp at Manchester or another campground Anchor Bay is second to Shelter Cove in my book.

The fishing is amazing on any given day. The beach is awesome for the family to hang out on and boogie board or just play while your out fishing. The amenities are better than anywhere else on the coast.

If your on the fence get off it and do this tourney.

If you think it's too far it's only 30 minutes past Ocean Cove.

Let's do this!!!

Oh were doing this, no doubt. Now I know  the amenities are there but will they actually have running water and showers available? Just wondering as the last SP we stayed at didn't offer there showers cause of the drought.

Anchor Bay is a Private campground and launch.  Many sites have running water and the showers are clean and warm :)

Any campgrounds down there closer than the KOA?  Had to wait to reserve cuz the gf wasn't sure. Also what time is the reward ceremony and potluck? Any chance someone has a cancellation at ab camp?

I have been on there waiting list several times in the past and almost always get a call because of a cancelation. There's still hope to get a spot.

If we do this event next year we should take the entire campground over.

This campground is pretty close and pretty nice. Have stayed here a few times. Not on the ocean but a great family campground for sure.

Stayed here to but just your basic Sonoma campground no power or showers but nice.

YES!!!!!!!! Any wood would (that sounds weird) be appreciated and used.

We will actually need a bunch (30+) some 3' or so single split logs to construct the bonfire teepee and then some cord wood. I'm suppose to talk to the local wood guy that supplies AB sometime next week but if we can go volunteer wood, that would be awesome! Let me know.

BIG FIRE

Thanks Bill!

EGO prize pack has arrived. I choose my favorite rock fish net (#72056A) 22"w x 24"L head with a removable 18" foam lined handle that extends with a push of a button to 36", perfect for a kayak. This net is rubber coated and 20" deep and it floats. I've fit some really big lings in it no problem, perfect inshore net.

Also included is a 34" red anodized 3/16" thick aluminum measuring board. It's Laser etched for longevity with 1/16" increments. This board is light and extremely durable (#73003).

Someone is really going to like these items!

The way the RC category is setup, it's anyone's game. The guys with the simplest rockcod rig can win this, no doubt about it. This should be fun. yet challenging.

I hadn't made plans to attend, but ATD gave this such a glowing recommendation today I'm thinking I would be foolish to miss out. I going to see if maybe I can get Thursday and Friday off and make it a mini vacation. I also like to have multiple days to fish when making the long drives in case of rough conditions.

Hey Ken, Hope you can make it up, this should be a lot of fun.

Just got home and the Lowrance bags I ordered came in. They are much nicer than I thought they would be. They have an adjustable strap, flat bottom, handles, velcro pocket in front and snap for the main pocket. I think all the pre-reg folks are going to really like these... and what comes in them.  :smt002

In talking with some of my guys @ Lowrance, there are very few kayak related tournaments that has Lowrance as a main sponsor.  All eyes will be on US, as Lowrance & their key distributors are working HARD in 2015 & beyond to expand the market for Kayak users!

I will personally be forwarding pictures & a full report back to some of the upper-most execs within Lowrance.  Both Mike & I will also have our standard "post-event" reports to fill out as well.

This being among the first West Coast events of this sort, we want to make it SHINE & you guys are our STARS!!!!!   :metal

The prizes for the Ling cod category and Raffle is looking awesome!!!

Hey Guys,

I've had a couple questions regarding how far it was from the sea wall/check-in table to Chicken Cove. Well, its 380 yards as the crow fly's. The reason for their concern was some anglers did not have a kayak cart that performed well on beach sand and found it might be difficult going. Well I contacted Otto from Wheelezz and he will be at the event. He will have 4 Demo kayak beach/sand carts for anyone/everyone for the trip to Checkin Cove.  :tweety:

In his words:

Please announce demo presence to your data base to help encourage those that may be on the fence due to hard portage.

If you do not own a set of these beach wheeleez carts yet, this is your chance to experience first hand why these carts are really the only option for kayak transport on thick/beach sand. So if you've been hesitant or on the fence to join us at LRC, don't be! Have no fear Wheeleez is here!   :headbang:

Steel ...  Had about 140 feet of new 1.5 x 1.5 steel square tubing so I used some of that.  Welded around all edges & then ground either flat or cove base.  Shot a little self-etching primer on the finished weld areas to protect it for now.  Other parts I recycled from an old rack I had here waiting to be hauled to the scrap yard.  Cut it apart & used a few pieces here & there.  Not the most beautiful but sturdy!  Still have a little more welding & accessories to put on it as well as paint.  Want some LED lighting, maybe some convertible racks on the side for kayaks or what not & I plan to cut it into 2 pieces so the back half /w 6 uprights can be removed leaving a "headache" rack on the truck at all times.  Don't REALLY love the 6 aluminum clamps holding it on the truck bed but I didn't want to drill thru the bed top & bed liner either so ....  It feels secure though!  I can feel a different in the stiffness of my truck while driving with it on there.  With the rear air bags inflated firm & this rack, that rear end feels solid as can be.

Built the rack just for this trip but I'll keep it around afterwards for other uses.  After this trip, the Tepui will come off & get mounted on my "Project X" camping trailer that has yet to be seen by the masses.  I know of a couple guys on here who have come to take a peak under the skirt to see it in person :smt002

Yup, seen it. Extended WX forecast for Gualala: Thurs 70% rain, Fri 50%, Sat 10%, Sun 0%. Wind is NNW at 6mph.

I don't mind a little rain. But as we all know, you can't predict the WX for the coast.  :smt001

Hey guys, just stopped in to talk with Jeff Martineau the manager at the Rancho Cordova, California Canoe and Kayak. Look what he had for me... a sweet Warner carbon paddle and 3 rental/demo certificates. So awesome, CCK has done a ton for our members and our events lately! I am extremely happy to have them as a sponsor for the 2014 LRC!

You fill out your own CPR form and submit.
Winnings - Entry Fee Cash 50/30/20 split after all essentials purchased - pot luck items, wristbands, ect.

Bonus - Category 2 - Lingcod
weighed by scale at the fish cleaning station.
1 fish per person
Heaviest fish(s) and top spots down - if there is a tie, length will determine outcome.
Winnings - So far we have over $2000 in product to give away. We have a Lowrance Elite7HDI, product from EGO, product from RAM, product from Scotty, a set of beach Wheeleez, Dobyns rod certificates, bait package from Big Hammer and lots more.

Check-in and wristbands will be available the morning of the event starting 5:30am where the parking area meets the beach. Shotgun start will be at 6:30 am out of chicken cove with the sound of the horn, sunrise is 6:50am. If you launch or land anywhere else but chicken cove you will be disqualified... period. Each angler must fill out their own points sheet accurately and submit at the check-in/ ling weigh table near the fish cleaning station no later than 1:00pm. Don't be late!

Safety is very important with any fishing event. Please make sure to have a functioning/waterproof VHF radio. Channel 69 is what we'll be using on the water. Also make sure to have a signaling device and/or whistle. It's also a good idea to buddy up on the water. Let's have a good time but above all let's be safe on the water!

No. This is not correct. From official reg rules:

• The entire fish must be photographed laying straight on a measuring board with either the fishes top or bottom jaw touching the boards end (0” mark).

Ok so I have a question about the rule:
4 points per inch for all. 1/4" increments.
Does that mean you get 1 point per 1/4 inch?

FYI

Remember if you don't have a set of wheeleez for the beach, no worries.
I've arranged to have Otto from Wheeleez at the event and will be supplying demo carts for your short walk down the beach to Chicken Cove.

We gotch You!

Mike

Thanks Mike, Otto, I will need to take advantage of that.

Ok all packed and ready to go... oh man I'm tired. I hope to see you all at LRC, be safe, be happy and fish hard.

I leave you with this...

HERE,
With my LRC beer
I sit,
While fish wish moments flit:

Alas!
They pass
Unheeded by:
And, as they fly,
I,
Being dry,
Sit, idly sipping here
My LRC beer.

See you OTW

Dont forget to bring firewood!  Even if it is just a few pieces.  After I loaded the real stuff, I only had room for about two dozen pieces.  I tried.....

Congrats to my dudes for the wins!!

The fam and I had a great time and it was super chill. The potluck was great, and it looked like there was a ton of food left over.

The fishing was excellent and I'm definitely heading back up there in the next few weeks. There were slab blues all over, along with some big blacks, and huge verms (I saw some monsters, but only caught one ~17"). I also lost a hitchhiker ling that would've given Craig's a run for his money. My bait never hit the ground and was instantly heavy, dead weight. The big black must've hit my bar on the way down and was immediately inhaled by the ling. It was a bitch bringing 'em both in from 80 feet and when I got 'em to the surface the ling flipped out while I was reaching for my lip grippers and ripped the black off the hook and was gone.

I wanted to stay Saturday night, but Vy was ready to go after trying to keep track of Derik, Kylee, and Derik's new friend all day. Bummed I missed the glass on Sunday.

Super thanks to all of the sponsors. I won a Werner paddle and a new PFD in the raffle thanks to my little man pulling daddy's raffle tickets.

Hi guys.
I want to start off by saying thank you to Mike and everyone involved who made this event a success!!!
Headed up on Friday with my wife. Started the adventure porcini hunting at  salt point.
Planning  to dive Friday afternoon, but rolled up to big waves and a nasty ocean.  Headed to Riders camp for the insane oyster fest. thank you so much for that!! LOL must have ate  a dozen oysters. Tim got in late but had roe and smoked salmon for a late night snack. Thanks dude!
Sat. Fishing was off the hook. 1/2 of my hookups where doubles. Started right off fish rock for my lings,  when wind started to pick up went around the island for my other fish.  Fish were stacked from 20-100 feet. at times! It was hard to get my jig past the monster blues!!
Sunday. Went out diving early. got 2 drivebys from the locals (Sealions). managed to pick up an ab in the 5 foot vis. :smt009
Then went out diving again with Rob and Naoaki.  Great job on the ab limits guys.
Headed home with one more stop for more porcini.
As always great to fish and chill with all!
Can't wait for next year!

I had a killer time at LRC. I've been jonesin for some saltwater fishing for the last few weeks.   Up here in humboldt the season closed at the end of October.  This was most likely gonna be my last saltwater trip of the year...and Anchor Bay did not disappoint!

Thanks Mike and all the other event coordinators for all the hardwork.  Thanks to all the volunteers for stepping up.  Thanks to the sponsors for everything too.

Jenn and I arrived late Thursday night.   We got an early paddle in down Gualala river to the mouth(which is closed off by sandbar).  Beautiful spot.   Then we made it over to Anchor Bay to check out logistics for event.   It was kind of confusing dealing with the camp office on all the day use fees.  $5 for the car, $5 bucks each for the 2 yaks on top of the car and $3 for each person in the car! Holy s@&t!  I'm gonna miss that kidney someday! :smt044

Beach was awesome.  Blue water, sunshine, and soft sand.  Surf was pretty rough. Jenn was having a lil freak out about me paddling out in these conditions.   We stayed and watched all the kids chasing birds, dogs chasin each other and divers chasin abs.  Lulls between sets were pretty long making a launch even in these conditions doable at the chicken cove launch site.  It assuaged her fears.

Next morning at 5 I was back at the beach unloading gear.  Eye candy sunset and beautiful water conditions. Said some hellos and got otw.

I caught a lot of lings from 26-30".  They were all pretty fat and feisty!  Best kind. The rockfish bite was pretty hot too!  I caught a ton of blues, a few blacks, a couple nice coppers and a canary.   The latter 2 I had never caught before, so that was pretty sweet.  I didn't catch any prize winning hawgs or win any of the raffle prizes but goddamn I had a blast.  I met some cool people, did some awesome fishing, got to see a part of the coast I hadn't seen yet, and spent a great weekend with my woman. That's what it's all about!

I want to thank all the LRC volunteers...

Jim(rockfish), James (Rider0 - my co-chairs did a great job as always!
Bill (FishingForTheCure) and fellow Lowrance Prostaff - Insight Genesis contest
Eric (TexasBoy) and Tony (NovoFish) - Potluck. Food was great guys!!!! Can't wait pick off that full pig next year...  :smt002
My wife Kara, Amos (SuperVato) - 5:30AM Registration on the beach - Great Coffee guys WOW!!! ZING!!!  :kick
Ricci (FishWorks) - Bonfire. For me, It was the perfect ending to a long day.
Rob (RacinRob) - Sidebet. Way to GO Joe!
Derrick (DirtyBassChucker) - AM beech drop off. Nice to meet you and thanks buddy!

I had an amazing time Mike!!!! Thanks so much for all the work you and James did on this. Plus everyone else who had a hand in it. It was a great, great way to spend some time with all the people who have come to mean so much to me. All the Sonoma homies and the safety squad love you muthas to death. I got to witness some new stuff. Mexican Fire Walker Adam Coca doing his thang at the bonfire. Walking the beach at night with Victor and Erik and seeing thousands of sand fleas gorging on bull kelp stalks.  Never saw that before. The potluck was so fun and Texas Boy was the comedian with the BBQ. I laughed my ass off every other moment. Dustin, your kids are sooooo GD cute man. What a great place for the kids to play. Im bringing my grandkids next year.

I could only manage three of the five rockfish specie. That copper and a china eluded me. The ling didn't. Its a big ocean and luck plays a huge part in putting you lure in the 1ft square slot for the strike. I was fortunate. That's all. Thanks Lowrance for a combo unit that is just about the coolest thing I've seen. I wont even need my GD glasses to see that sucka. hahahahah

The bathrooms were clean. The grounds immaculate. the potluck area couldn't have been better. Congrats Joe!!!! You Bomb from Guam. :smt003 :smt006  Everyone was truly a winner who came out for this. I didn't want to go home. Ever

The last pic is when I got too close to the herd and like 50 jumped in the water and charged the kayak. I was like WTF!!!!!!! No time for anymore pics. heheheh see you later you foul smelling bitches. :smt008

Everyone did a fantastic job putting on the event. The staff at AB campground was tops. Thanks for all the hard work so we could all have a fun time. Thanks to all the sponsors. I like my new net, measuring board and kayak rental. How much was raised for "Pay It Forward"? I see I came in 26th out of 26 in both categories. Woo hoo" better than getting skunked! Maybe we need a most improved category next year.  :smt044 I thought I was going to get a nice crab harvest but it was one crab caught and one crab trap lost. I guess my Danielson trap landed on a rocky spot and got stuck. I tried to get it Friday and Saturday with no luck. I'm hoping it will work itself free and I will be able to get it later. If anyone is out there, feel free to give it a tug. It is 50-100 yards out from the rock, straight out from the ramp. Red and white float with my name, phone and NCKA handle written on it. I love the photos. We have some good photographers in this group. I'm looking forward to doing it again next year!  :smt006

I will start off by giving a BIG THANK YOU to Mike and Kara for visualizing the Lowrance Rockfish Classic at Anchor Bay and seeing it through it's successful completion. It was my first time to this campground and awesome fishing location as I was impressed with the launch/exit for the kayak angler! I love me some chicken!(cove that is).
The support crew for this event was pretty much flawless. Bill Fishingforthecure even gave some otw support for a brother who needed help with his Lowrance during the tourney! When I heard this, I truly believed that the tournament had reached another level of excellence.
Thanks again to James who was everywhere doing everything! Dude, what was in your coffee?
Thanks to Jim for event support and fire baked oysters! Thanks to Kara, Amos, and basschucker for the early morning check-in and logistics! Thanks to Eric and Tony for rallying on the potluck! Whatever happens in AB stays in Ab, lol!

I had fun fishing with everyone and hanging out at the bonfire! I appreciate the fact that there is a great group of folks that love the sport of kayakfishing as much as I do!

Big kudos to Solsrf1 and Jimgosc for hanging with a brother!

Thank You All!

Big congrats to Joe-Bloodbath, you did it again Bro!, and to Craig-Ravensblack, two ling jackpots in a row!
Sunday morning conditions were flat and fishy, with Tiny having his best ling day ever, and Fishunter killing it on light tackle with a 21"er.
Can't wait for LRCII, Goz

Thanks Mike for a great event.  Congrats to Joe and Craig on their top places.  The fishing for me was red hot all day and I did end up catching around 50 fish made up of seven different species; 16.25" blue, 20" black, 18.5" verm, 13.5" gopher, 15.5" greenling, 30.5" ling, and a 21" cab.

Thanks again Mike!

Wow what a great weekend. Anchor Bay was a nice venue and well kept. Mike, Kara, and James did a great job organizing and making everything go smooth. Eric and Tony manning the meats made everyone happy and stuffed! And the BonFire was Hot Hot Hot. Great times. My fingers are still swollen from catching sooo much fish. Tons of fish at Anchor Bay. Thank you everyone for making this a grand weekend. Congrats to Craiggers and Joe for the Big W. Well done. And major thanks to Jim, Dr. Habenero for finding my phone. I had Fun.

Thanks To TEAM LOWRANCE for holding such a sweet event. AB is a VERY nice place. Clean and easy access to beach.....and hog Rockfish to boot!

Congrats to ALL who won and also to those who tried to win. I was there to camp, fish and chill with the crew! The potluck area was sweet!

I tried to stay away from the Lings by staying off the bottom. I tried to catch a Vermillion, but that was not to be. I did target Rockies both days, as I needed some winter stock. Glad I did cuz we got into the SlabBlues and they are crazy fighters! My plan to avoid Lings did not work as my first drop and fish was a 30"Ling. After that it was mid colum drops only.

There's Got To Be The Morning After..........and it was GLASS!
RavensCraig talked me into going out the nite before(thanks man!) I am was glad I did. Took the micro-lite set-up out and got worked sooo good.

pic1~Guided by the SantaCruzCrew of bloodbath, solsrfrMike and Jim.

pic2&3~ 28" and 26" lings worked me on the lite setup

Damn, looks like an event to look forward. Its funny that I was reading the post, a co-worker of mine told me they have properties 2 minutes away from the event camp, she said they have their own cove and 4 acre lot. She gave me permission to use the property and camp there, she also mentioned lots of shrooms in their area and welcome to forage. Dang Now I more reason to visit the place.

A whole pod of these guys came over to visit twice... under and all around me. It's funny the GoPro has a wide angle lens and makes it look as though they're aways off. But actually this dolphin was jumping about 20' or less away from me and the first breach was about 10' away. Soo frick'n cool! Oh and these things were really big animals, I felt a bit small in my yak for a few moments.

I cannot wait to see what happen at LRCII. Heehawww.

It's good to see all the pictures of all the big fish that were caught at LRC. If you did catch a personal best fish on a Branson slug or swimbait please do me a favor and let me know. I know Tim (Fisheductor) caught his 2nd place ling on a Halloween colored Branson BigFoot Swimbait. Also if you could please post your success/story on the Branson Baits facebook page. Thanks much!

Wish I had known there was a photo contest, would have taken some other pics., guess I'm going to have to sneak out one more time before the end of the year  :smt002, BTW- my fish also inhaled my bait and it took me 20 min. to extract without losing fingers, by then the wind kicked into high gear and chased me in. Big Time props to all who organized, volunteered, participated, won, placed, sponsored, partied safely, fished safely, and generally had a classy and fun time at the 1st LRC!!!! :smt006

James and Mike I am kicking myself for not experiencing Anchor Bay earlier, the place rocks!

Big thanks to Scott the volunteer fry-cook who took over the fish frying duties from my inept self - I did learn a lot for next year - although it sounds like I might have to learn how to roast a pig now!

On Sat, I had one of my best fishing days - top two at least, on the salt, landing close to 30 fish, mostly medium grade but non stop action with about 6 doubles on decent fish.
Had my first Ling/Black double, and landed a pig 22" cabbie.

Naoaki, it was good to hang with you bro, we haven't fished together for a while.

My launch was uneventful, and landing could have been a yard sale, but I was able to side surf about 10 ft to shore, when I got kicked sideways fast!

Until next year,
novofish

Thank you Mike and Bill and all the others for a amazing tourney. We had an great time. A great event and me and my son Tyler got to meet some more of the great NCKA people. The fishing was spectacular. It was unreal to park over a school of blues and reel them up on every cast for practically 2 hours. I finally moved on just to try to find some more species. Way fun though. Here is a pic of the big verm Tyler caught. We measured again right before we cleaned it and it was just over 25" with mouth closed. Hard to measure cause the thing was shaped like a football! Trust me he will never again forget to enter the side bet. Congrats to Joe on his win in that, nice to meet you too. Thanks again to everyone involved we will definitely be back next year
