The conditions in the bay today was the best I've ever experience since I started kayak fishing.  The launch was as easy as it gets and water was like glass - very little wind at all.   And to top it off..... I caught a green sturgeon which measured 34" (not 36" as Joel originally reported).  Here's photo proof which also shows a sample of the small "Jumping Jack" prawns that I used for bait.  The look like grass shrimp on steriods and you can buy'em fresh at Asian groceries for about $2.99/lb... a bargain compared to ghost, grass, or mud shrimp.... plus they stay on your hook better.

I would have taken better pictures, but I didn't want to keep the fish out of the water very long before releasing it.  As you can see, Ken was enjoying the gorgeous weather.

The bottom of the bay around by the airport and ferry was nice and sandy -- not your typical bay mud.  It averaged around 6-10 foot with several deep holes nearly 40 ft deep and nearby humps as shallow as 2 feet deep.  Here's Ken standing in one spot that was nearly 1/2 mile out in the middle of the bay.  If he would have walked out 30 yards in any direction his head would have probably been under water.

Besides my one sturgeon, I caught several croakers and a small leopard shark.  I assure you, Ken and I will be back again.... especially when the halibut and striper action picks up.  This place ROCKS :metal

Nice report.  Sounds like fun.

The pic of Ken standing in the middle of bay is nuts!  So did he have total faith in his fish finder and just step off his yak or did he probe with his paddle first???   :smt002

He's on the edge of getting wet in the biblical sense, if ya know what I mean.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.
