South bay is only about an hour from Buck's if you want to head on down.

OK. So, how many guys are going to Buck's and how many to the south bay?  I think I will go to Buck's.  Better track record.

I'm up for Buck's - at least there's a bar to look forward to wash off any skunk that I might be bringing home. Also, gotta check my numbers for the pool.
BTW - who's holding that Sturgeon Bowl? I think it would be a blast if a kayaker won it. Is it spread over a few days or just one?

The only reason I mentioned we might not want to hit Bucks is that with the derby going on ther eis going to be a lot of traffic and pressure in the area. The one thing I heard is that sturgeons don't like noise. Plus from what I have read bait gets to be hard to find during the derby. I would hate to drive to bucks and not be able to find bait. It would be awesome for a kayaker to win the derby though...

I figured it might be a good time to hit an out of the way area.

Here is the website for the sturgeon derby:

http://www.originalsturgeonderby.com/

Assuming it does not look to bad at low tide, I am going to go with Art to check out Alviso.

If you look at the map on the website that derby weigh in is a zillion miles from Bucks, I don't think those people will be fishing San Pablo if they have to deliver a live sturgeon, but I could be wrong???  I would expect them to be around the Mothball Fleet.

7 pay spaces? Josh's sturgeon would've been in some money. Dunno, might be fun to REPRESENT!
Anyone game to put in? If there's a time to STurgeon fish, this could be it!
You also get a cool lil flag to fly if you're in the Derby.
I'll call to find out more information and let you guys know.

The bar is cool, I wouldn't mind patronizing that establishment for a few more beers, er, hours.   :smt003

Maybe we'll see how the weather looks, if it's the same MO as last time, we should bail to the southbay and hope it's better.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

Hey Guys,

Guys going to Buck's may wanted to stop by Oyster Pt. and get some bait.  If they do not have Ghost or grass shrimp.  Get some eel or herring.  Maybe even blood (didn't think they sell this)or pile worms.

Also, there are a couple places in South San Jose.

Thanks for the info Chris, now I am torn.

Alviso is 15 minutes from my house so I would really like to find that it is a viable launch and a viable fish catching spot...

However if most of the people are going to be fishing away from San Pablo then it would be a prime time to have the place to ourselves...
