I really wanted to fish on Wednesday, but there was going to be a storm blowing in. All of the weather I checked for local fishing spots showed that I would be blown off the water by around 10am so fishing didn't look good. The tide for the Napa River looked decent for the morning and I figured I could get a quick morning trip in and if the weather was bad I would just get some breakfast and watch the rain.

I started the morning to grey skies and no wind. I began trolling a Rapala Husky Jerk and enjoying the scenery. About 5 minutes in a saw a first for me. A giant sturgeon jumped full out of the water about 100 feet in front of me!! Full vertical, totally out of the water. It shocked the heck out of me. Quite a site to see.

A few minutes into trolling and I hooked up my first fish. It ended up being probably the best fish of the day and the hooks pulled out at the side of the kayak  :smt012  oh well thats fishing. I continued to troll for awhile and lost another fish (wft seriously?).

Trolling wasn't doing it for me so I changed to throwing a paddle tail swimbait. I ended up catching 10 stripers in 4 hours. Most were 20-22 inches.. Only 1 that was under at 17 inches and the biggest one around 26 inches.

I ran into a few other NCKA ers but totally forgot their names. They were out doing a bit of cast and blast with ducks.

Oh and that weather? Yeah it never came. No rain and no wind. Stupid weather forcast!

Nice report.  Looks like you launched at Cuttings Wharf?

I've had good luck this month higher up by trolling swimbaits.  Best time seems to be at the bottom of low tide for me, but fish are smaller up higher.  Will need to go down there and check it out.

Niiiice. I can never convince any of my local kayak buddies to drive out there. I'm just going to have to man up and go solo
