have had the yaks for two years now, have done freshwater fishing but no big blue ventures yet...love fishing off the rocks for rockfish and whatever else bites  the occasional ling etc.  want to try similar fishing from the yak and then maybe venture into halibut etc.  Anyone have any suggestions for an easy put in for practicing?  San Mateo or marin coasts preferably but do go to pacific valley/big sur to camp twice a year and fishing looks great...any easy put ins down that way?  I have a hobie outfitter tandem with pedals   its heavy and a tough carry so want to be fairly close to the water...thanks for all the help and hope to see some of you OTW!

Welcome Juan!   :smt001

I can't help you with easy put ins, but I recommend continuing to build your salt experience and gear and look for a hookup to join in when you think you're ready.  Consider a class or a guide and be sure you can self rescue!

Your writing of a love for fishing off the rocks for lings and rockies hits home for me.  I was so in to abalone madness in the early 90's that morphed into rockfishing madness in the mid to late 90's and then led me to getting my first SOT fishing kayak in 1999.  I've never looked back in terms of THE superior method of hardcore, in your face (lap!) Nature interaction.  Ab diving and rockpicking still hold a special place in my heart, and I continue to devote some tiime to them as I do shore fishing (not when I can yakfish...), but most of my time is yakfishing.  Long story shorter, it's addicting as hell.  Good luck.   :smt001

Half moon bay is a great easy launch with rockfish, halibut and sometimes salmon available right outside the harbor.

I would start there untill you get some experience. Let us know how you do!
