Title: Team Mooch in SF on Sunday
Post by: BigJim on October 15, 2015, 10:22:44 AM
Ana and I will be sporting our Team Mooch jerseys and running the Nike Womens 1/2 Marathon on Sunday.

If you are in the area and see me slogging/chugging by please say hi!!

Or offer me a beer like MudShark and BirdDog did on my last run at the Wharf2Wharf...I won't say no.  :smt003

Looking forward to spending the day taking Mooch along to see 20,000 women out running...  :smt004 :smt007

They changed the course last year and now the biggest and steepest hill is towards the end...managed to run all the way up last year and was pretty stoked on that...will see how I do this year...I weigh 30+ pounds less than last year but all of my training has been on a kayak or underwater so no real high expectations.

Sincerely,

Jim

ps...thanks to some very generous people I was also able to raise over $2,700 for Team Coco who raised over $100,000 to get a research grant for Lymphoma and Leukemia in Coco’s name.  :smt008

Steeper than Hayes Hill?

Steeper than Hayes Hill?

Yeah I think so...pretty sure Hayes Hill is between miles 1.5 and 2.5...this hill (between miles 9.5 and 10.5) is steeper for sure.

Sincerely,

Jim

The hill between 9.5 and 10.5 is the slog up from Baker Beach towards the GGB. I've never run it, but it's a bitch on a bike. Good luck!

Cheers,
Brad

route looks similar to the middle half of the SF marathon in july, in reverse.  should be perfect cool running weather, and a fast finish considering you dropped big weight.  if the makeover continues you gonna have to change your name from BigJim to just TallJim  :smt044

Yep, that's the one!! It was frikkin brutal!!  :smt005 :smt044

Plan is to go slow and steady and conserve energy until that hill...then slow and steady up the hill...then cruise down and over to finish...then cold beer.

I'm not looking for fast...just to not be in too much pain and not have to stop and walk or nothing.

We'll have two other ladies in Team Mooch jerseys with us as well...spreading the Mooch love!!

That last hill reminds of one on Leavenworth I once made the mistake of walking up. Also very tough on manual transmissions when waiting at a stop sign.

The worst hill I've ever ran all the way up is the 2 mile hill leading up to Hurricane Point on the BigSur Marathon....next time you drive back from BigSur imagine running from BigSur Station all the way to the Safeway in Carmel. Brutal.  :smt005

Try running skyline to the sea 50K.  There's a hill in the last HALF MILE that had me screaming all kind of profanities, like a tenderloin junky schizo.  Oh, i was so mad seeing that f'ing hill at mile 30.

Your last mile looks pretty flat and fast, time to go sub 7min!   :smt003

I bet that sucked!  :smt005

Sub 7 min?!???  :smt044 :smt005 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

You mean time to relax and enjoy the scenery...there's a reason I do this race every year.  :smt003

I usually try to ditch out of the city during most events bu if I'm in town, I'll throw ya a beer.

Have a good run.

Hope to see you Aaron!!

My old college roommate is gonna try and meet me at about mile 8 and help keep me motivated to run that last big hill.

After I finish I plan on drinking beer in the Safeway parking lot at 15 Marina Blvd until Ana and her Aunt are done.  :smt005

Had a great time running with and for Mooch on Sunday!!

Didn't go super fast but kept a steady pace throughout the whole course even with the hills.

According to the results I did the first 5K in 37 minutes, next in 34, then 35, then 35, with a finish time of 2:28 minutes.

For not training I am pretty happy with how it went and I felt strong on the hills and did not have to stop and walk or anything.

My good buddy Bryan joined me on the course and ran the last 4 miles with me and then joined me for a few beers afterwards.  :smt004

Highlight for me was that when I crossed the finish line the announcer called out "Alright Team Mooch! Live Life!!".

 :smt007 :smt008 :smt007

Sincerely,

Jim

Stoked for you Jim. Ran 1/2 Marathon without training? That's unheard of.  :smt005
I can only guess beer is an amazing product to you.   :smt003
