I did have a great time out there a lot of fun did not think I was on the water for 9-10 hours. Tried to put some of Great Bass 2 sailing seminar to good use, Scott the compass was a great idea, thanks made staying on corse a lot easer. And I found that dead air you where talking about next time I will stay out of that area. As for the leaky hull I just did a water test (filled the bottom of the boat with water and let it sit for two hours) and you all where right no leaks,  if you check out the pics what do you accepted  :smt044 some water is going to get in.
#1 Compass
#2 trying to keep up with ChuckE and tailwalker (Ithink it should be windwalker :smt003)

When in pursuit upwind try avoid the dirty air from the lead boats. There are a few ways to do it but sometimes you have to split tacks to get clean air. Looking at your position in the picture, I would have waited for a header wind shift then tacked to the opposite tack as chuck and leno. Reading the wind shifts is the key to winning a tacking duel. When pursuing down wind, the strategy is to use your sail to lay dirty air on the lead boats. Thats a nice looking compass, what brand?

Reading the wind shifts...

This is a tough one, Scott. And coincidentally that was what I tried yesterday and it worked. One drawback though is it's a little stressfull keeping watch of the wind shift all the time to get to point b the fastest.

Also tried one big tack, multiple small tacks, and combination of both. The latter worked well for me. Is it ideal? Or back again to reading the wind shift? I guess I need more clinics and spend more time on the water. BTW, when are we going to have on-the-water self-rescue/recovery clinic?

Too bad I left early and missed your race.  I pulled my Suunto compass out of storage and put in place.  I learn something new on every trip.  I got the my compass on clearance at Sports Chalet last year for $13.  Wish I bought another one.

Sailing the Hobie Island is really fueling my interest in sailing and the Americas Cup Races.  There is going to be a regatta near the Marina Green from Tuesday 8/21 to 8/26.

Anyone interested in checking it out from land or from water in our AI's?

We could sail out to near Alcatraz to get the best seat for the show.  Here's a link to exclusion zone:

If there's enough interest, I can start a separate hook-up thread or PM list.

"I don't get much water in the hull usually, but i do seem to get some inside of my amas, not really sure how that happens.  not much, a cup or two here and there"
Hey Ben, take a look at the O-rings on your drains. If they are cracked or old, they might not be sealing well.

I checked on my V1 and it is fine. The closest steel are the screws on the mast receiver.
