If you are in the Monterey bay area, I would recommend beach launching from Monterey Bay Kayaks. With the expected number of PB'ers being high that weekend, be careful when crossing between the end of the warf and the rock wall. If you stay closer to the aquarium, you may get some protection from the swells, but dealing with the wakes from boaters ripping by may be a PITA as well. As others noted, make sure you are aware of the no fish zones. I personally would stay away from Moss Landing. Incoming and outgoing tides rip through there and it's PB central. Beach launches and landings are no joke either. I almost busted my knee when the kayak turned sideways in a small wave and hit my leg.
Typical safety gear and +1 for the 3mm farmer john. Layers up top cause it can get cold.
Good luck, stay safe, and tight lines!
