For Sale / Free Igloo Coolers
« on: April 21, 2018, 03:10:28 PM »
I collected way too many coolers over the years, and a few are looking for new homes. All coolers are clean, no funky fish smell. Must pick up between Concord and ARW.

1) Igloo Playmate 16 qt.

2) Igloo 38 qt wheeled cooler.

3) Igloo 60 qt wheeled cooler.

General Talk / Aluminum Tubing
« on: September 25, 2017, 10:48:47 PM »
Anyone know where I can purchase a 4' section of 1.25" OD, 1/16" wall thickness aluminum tubing? I am not sure about the exact alloy. I bent the handle of my salmon net during a kayak roll over earlier in the season, and had to trim about 1.5' off it. Needless to say, trying to net a salmon with a short handled net is tricky at best.

Recipes / Anchovy Recipe?
« on: August 01, 2017, 05:32:19 PM »
There are tons of large anchovies in half moon bay right now. I love oily fish such as mackerels, sardines, and herrings, so i figured i want to try anchovies. Anyone got a recipe for fresh anchovies?

I wonder if you try this with 50# braid, does it break, or do you lose your hand? :smt009 :smt005

Craftsmen's Corner / Another Promar TR-102W 5" Opening Modification
« on: October 21, 2016, 09:08:34 AM »
I really liked the stainless steel clips that hold the Promar TR-102W crab traps shut. They can be easily closed using a single hand. This might not sound like much, but you will really appreciate this feature when you are sitting with the trap on your lap and bouncing around in the waves.

There have been a few modifications posted to make the Promar TR-102W compliant with the 2016 crabbing regulations. Unfortunately, all the ones I have seen involved removing the stainless steel clips and replacing them with loops of untreated cotton twine. To close the trap, you will have to wrap the loops around both door frames and attach it to a bungee cord to keep tension on the twine. Not easy to do if you are constantly watching for incoming swells.

I wanted to retained the stainless steel clips, so my modification involved the existing circular escape rings. The Promar TR-102W comes with two 4.25" circular escape rings on the sides of the trap. These rings are attached to the netting using polypropylene line. I carefully cut away this line and removed the circular ring, revealing a 3 mesh square x 3 mesh square opening, approximately 4.5" x 4.5". This was smaller than the required 5" opening, so I cut away an extra row and column of mesh squares, forming a 4 mesh square x 4 mesh square opening about 6" x 6". I then wove the circular escape ring into the larger opening using untreated cotton twine.

« on: July 17, 2016, 10:56:11 AM »
I have a Sea Line Nimbus dry bag that has a few pinholes. According to its website, it is urethane coated nylon. Anyone have any idea how to patch the holes?
