The newest iteration of the Slayer line is here!  I was part of the design team and there's a lot of cool stuff on this boat.  We worked on fixing most of the issues that we felt the Slayer Propel 13 was lacking.  Don't forget, the 13 was the original of the Slayer line and yeah, things have evolved a lot since then.

Here's the link to the new boat on Native's website.  If you've got facebook or insta we've got a few videos up on it already, as well as the one on the website.

https://nativewatercraft.com/max/

Specs:
Length 12'6"
Width  34"
Weight 89lbs bare hull* (estimated weight)
Weight 108lbs fitted* including titan seat base and propel drive (estimated)

*Larger rudder than original stock
*New Titan Seat Base - storage under the seat and also higher COG option
*Switch mounting plate on starboard side
*Battery Storage Tray (on top of transducer mounting location)
*Integrated rod tubes on both sides of kayak

Other things:
Entire cockpit is 25" in width throughout the yak - should be plenty of width within the cockpit to store anything you need, and space to keep your feet while pedaling.
New Rotomolded front hatch cover should be very durable compared to the previous vacuum sealed hatch.  Strong enough that you could even stand on it if you wanted.
mounting spots for power pole micro or a bow mount trolling motor for the bass guys.

AOTY / AOTY 2019 Recommendations anyone?
« on: December 20, 2018, 11:44:59 PM »
Anyone have any comments or questions about this year's rules that you would like changed before 2019 launches?

I think 2018 went fairly well, not too many hiccups or complaints came to us about our judging this year.  Again, please feel free to reach out to myself or any of the other judges if you have a problem that you don't want to post up publicly.

A couple of items that we quietly allowed this year, per judge discretion:
1. Mouth open - please continue to attempt to close the mouth the best you can. We gave a bit of leeway for those like paperthin mouth open submissions, the ones that obviously didn't affect length.  We won't necessarily be as lenient if there is a trend of mouth being open.
2. Greenling - we know they're a bitch to close their mouth, so just try at all.  I don't think we reduced a single greenling for mouth open.
3. Blurry pictures/bad board lining - we generally give a little slack to people on blurry pictures and unmarked hawg troughs, as long as we can make a discretionary judgment on fish length.

Things we still didn't give any leeway on:
4. Cut throat and or stringer rule - this is hard and fast and we simply don't use discretion on these.

Things we waffle on:
5. "Straight up" board shots - it is important for us to get pictures of fish from as straight up an angle as possible.  If you take a picture too much from one side or another, it can cause problems for us trying to determine the actual length of the fish, especially if the tail is not touching the board.  We do want you to be able to catch and release a fish if you so choose, so please try to take a picture towards the back half of the fish so we can tell where the tail is touching.  These take a lot of work for the judges to decide on the proper length, so your cooperation is requested to help make the jobs of our volunteers necessary.

DA Money - $40 is still expected to be the entry fee, but it takes a lot of work to get sponsors.  So we can't make many guarantees about what we will get for prizes next year.  Please participate or if you have ideas to improve participation it would be great.  The board will be discussing the entry fee over the next week so please provide us your input if you have it.

If you disagree with the above or have any other suggestions, please feel free to use this as an open forum to discuss.

Thanks,
AOTY Committee

Exciting News Everyone!

Bending Branches has come on board as a 2018 NCKA AOTY Sponsor!

BB will be donating an awesome Angler Pro Fishing Kayak Paddle, a $299.95 MSRP value! This paddle will go to a BRAND new prize category this year, the TOP PADDLER!
Here's a link to the prize paddle:
https://bendingbranches.com/products/angler-pro-snap-kayak-fishing-paddle

Here's how it will work:
The top placing competitor in the NCKA AOTY competition whose primary vessel for the competition is a PADDLE kayak (non pedal drive) will win this prize. The AOTY Committee members are very aware of which competitors use paddle kayaks and which primarily use pedal yaks, so we will be able to determine who the Top Paddler is.

So do you think you got what it takes to pass up the pedal drive folks? I bet you do. If you haven't signed up yet, go get signed up on https://aoty.norcalkayakanglers.com today! You still have plenty of time to catch up!

AOTY / AOTY MAY UPDATE!
« on: May 02, 2018, 09:17:40 AM »
May AOTY Update!

The competition is heating up for sure now! Ocean Rockfish is open now for all state, so we're starting to see a trickle in of our saltwater friends. We expect to see some large lingcod, cabezon and rockfish from our Lost Coast contingent soon.

Ocean Salmon is open in some places, although for the most part out of reach of most kayakers, so far. Trout season is open throughout the Sierras, Bass/Crappie are biting well, Shad have moved into the rivers meaning that some of our big Striped friends will be on the gorge. It's a wonderful time to fish right now, so get your plastic boats out on the water!

Right now we have migrated everything to the new AOTY website at https://aoty.norcalkayakanglers.com . If you have not been able to login yet, please contact us. There are some issues with folks getting password resets to sbcglobal/ATT e-mail addresses due to spam filtering. So we may need to change your email address to another one if you are using that.

Here are the top 10 as of today:
1. ThreeMoneyJ/John Meteyer - 1051 points, John's still picking away at the fish, with a nice solid 150 point average. He's got 7 species and a nice variety of salt and freshwater, doing great!
2. Supervato/ Amos Foreman - 963points, with a 138point average. He's got up on the board with the opening of rockfish season, but that point average won't hold up 2nd place all year!
3. FreshNSalty/ Bee Xiong - a close third with 941.5 points, but he's got a very solid 157 point average, including that big spot from earlier this year.
4. SeaChumm/ Aaron Coon - 769 points. Aaron's only got 5 fish so far, but a nice solid average.
5. Uminchu / Uminchu Naoaki - 759 points - Naoaki's got an excellent nearly 190 point average with some really nice fish so far! Hopefully he can find some time to keep going fishing, right?
6. tommcdo - 753 points - Great start for one of our newer competitors, who has a very nice sized crappie to help bolster his scores.
7. Orange Chicken/ Matt R. Wong - 727 points - Matt continues to do really well for a relatively new competitor, and word is he's got a few more fish coming in soon to post.
8. Midwest/ Kyle Monte - 692 points - Kayak Fish Sonoma is his name, and fishing the ocean is his game. Now that rockfish season is open, I'm sure we'll be seeing a bunch more fish coming in from Kyle!
9. The Kraken/ Scott Keller - 673 points - Scott is a very accomplished freshwater fisherman, but now that the season is open he'll start making treks to the salt as well, so watch out!
10. Sam Elliot - 580 points - Sam is the top placing fisherwoman on our list so far, and spends a lot of time fishing with our first place competitor 3MJ. So you can expect her to continue rising up the leaderboard for sure!

Some other recent catches -
Sue Vang got one of the largest crappie we've seen in the competition, a 16.5", 198 point PIG caught at the recent Rollins Roundup. Nice job Sue!
DrunKnMunKee/Vinny Dau caught a solid 31" striper recently, a very nice fish no matter how you cut it.

Good luck to all our competitors in the upcoming months! Also, don't forget about all of our awesome sponsors:
Hobie Fishing
Kayak City
Mustang Survival
Lockrack USA
Clavey Paddlesports
Kayak Connection
YakAttack
Branson Baits
Amadeo Bachar

First, thanks to Brian Steves for all his hard work in being our webmaster.  His salary of $0 is well earned.

The new AOTY 2.0 site has been launched, and is now active for submissions at aoty.norcalkayakanglers.com.

FIRST - You will need to reset your password. While your login username will remain the same, you will need to get a new password. To do so, click on "Sign In" in the top right corner.  After that, select "Forgot your Password".  You will need to enter the e-mail address you set up in the AOTY system to get the reset your password link.

If this e-mail address is no longer used, or if you forgot what it is, there is no additional "I'm a dummy and forgot my e-mail address" Link on the website.  So instead, you should use this link:  I'm a dummy and forgot my e-mail address and tell that person that you forgot your e-mail address.  He will tell you what it is, or help you change it.

A couple of things to note:
There are a few little nits in the new AOTY 2.0 site that are still remnants from NWKA's working site.  If you do not want to disclose the body of water the fish was caught in, just type whatever.  But this helps the judges determine legality, and does not show up on the public submission page so others cannot see where the fish was caught.  If you catch a fish on a sail kayak, click the sail button. We are looking for ways to get the new slams active as well, so you may see some changes there.

AOTY / LockRack USA Steps up HUGE as a 2018 NCKA AOTY Sponsor!
« on: March 15, 2018, 03:22:58 PM »
Hey All,

Got off the phone with a nice gentleman with LockRack USA (https://lockrackus.com/) about their products, and sponsoring our year long tournament.

Proud to announce that LockRack is committing to be a 2018 NCKA AOTY competition sponsor, and will be donating TWO sets of their LockRack kayak product.

Us NorCal guys are probably more unique than a lot of kayak fishermen throughout the country, as we continue to be cartoppers even though the Midwest and tons of other areas are moving away from it.  This product looks truly excellent as a way to secure your kayak to the roof of your vehicle, and pricing wise its in line with other roof rack accessories.  They are also introducing a new kayak rack this year that is adjustable to fit different types of kayak models.

Key Features:
Lockable with keys
No straps needed!  Although I think I'll probably do front and rear just in case.
Folds down when not in use

They will be offering me a demo model to bring up to GSXII, which of course will be a real test of how solid these racks are.  I'll be carrying one of my Natives up there on top of my excursion.  Come check it out at Shelter!

Take a moment to thank LockRack for sponsoring our tournament on their
Facebook page (Like, share, comment) at https://www.facebook.com/lockrackusa/
instagram at https://www.instagram.com/lockrack/.

Website:
https://lockrackus.com/
http://lockrackinternational.com/

You can find them at REI locations or on REI's website.  Their newest model is still being released.  Still working on getting local dealers to carry them.

Thanks,
Ben

AOTY / Introducing the SLAM Categories!
« on: February 28, 2018, 09:49:45 AM »
Introducing the SLAMS! The NCKA AOTY Committee has gotten together and decided for the 2018 NCKA AOTY year that we are introducing 3 SLAM categories.

RCG Slam - Lingcod, Rockfish, Cabezon, Greenling
Bass Slam - Spotted & Smallmouth Bass (Combined Category), Striped Bass, Largemouth Bass
Freshwater Salmonid Slam - Brown Trout, Trout, Kokanee and Mackinaw

For each of the above SLAMS, the competitor who scores the most points will be crowned with the SLAM title. We will be working on getting these slams integrated into the AOTY website, but it may take a bit to get them to show up. That being said, these are official and ACTIVE so go get 'em!

We are currently working on getting sponsors for each of these slams, and hope to get some cool stuff for the best of the best. We hope this encourages more participation and some enthusiasm for those of you who may not be able to attack at least 10 species of fish full bore.

Getting excited yet? WE ARE!

Sign up today at http://aoty.norcalkayakanglers.com!

Signing up for AOTY costs $40, and ALL net proceeds from the NCKA AOTY competition go to Pay it Forward, a Northern California kayak fishing community fund that helps out community members in financial need due to circumstances outside of their control.
