Hey guys,

I want to wish a happy new year to my NCKA brothers. Sorry, i've been kinda absent this last year, but i'm looking forward to a great 2019, and getting some new content on my blog and on NCKA.

So let's start this year off with safety, and making sure people stay safe and healthy for 2019.
I wrote this fun article on my blog and wanted to share it with you guys.  To the OG's it's old news but hopefully you guys can at least get some entertainment value from it. -TLA

Introduction
So you decided to take a leap in to the Big Blue Huh? Take time to read this article to stay safe and have an enjoyable and safe trip.

Here are ten tips to keep you safe when out in the BIG BLUE!

Tip #1 Bring a  VHF Marine Radio
Having a functional working hand radio is one of the most important safety equipment on the kayak outside of the Life vest.  The radio is the Kayak Anglers only safety communication line on the big blue, and having a functional is a MUST.

Tip #2 Emergency Back Up Plan
Let your family/ close friends know your general fishing location and what time you expect to be back.  There are many unknowns when fishing in the big blue, but in having a solid plan will provide the extra insurance in case things may go south.

You got to be the captain of your own destiny or get hijacked by a Somalian pirate.

Great article, brought a lot of deja vu moments of how things went right when events took a bad turn.

I would add to bring a tow or throw rope at all times.

What if you don't have any friends?

Fish with CHET. He's always willing to say he fishes with people then takes off.
He is the very definition of bullet point one in the Hook up.

Dig the write up!

I wonder if new members/new yakkers should be required to read similar posts/threads before being jumped into NCKA =P

Perhaps bullet point #11 could be make sure everything is fastened to the yak because #yardsale.

that would take all the fun out of watching surf landings though!

seriously, lots of good advice in the write up TLA. Nicely done.

I have to agree to some degree. I think I did this when my partner don't arrive on time or "I am too old to launch before day break".
Sound familiar TLA ? LOL  :smt044
