I eat a fair amount of potatos, especially fried, but like to precook to cut down on time. I used to wrap them in plastic wrap and toss'em in the nuker to cook them, then chop and fry to brown for that caramelized goodness.

A few years ago news came out that nuking in plasticware wasn't such a good idea and I have enough chemistry in my background to know that they were right so I started trying to nuke stuff in glassware.

I had a hard time finding glassware just the right size for one potato so I started dropping one into a coffee cup and covering it with a little pyrex saucer. Then of course one day the saucer fell off the cup, bounced out of the nuker, broke on the counter and splashed broken glass all over the kitchen.

Crap, so I just continued with nuking that one without the top. Hmm, it worked just as fast as without a lid.

Since then to nuke a potato, I just drop it into an appropriate sized coffee cup (no lid) and set it for about 2/3 the time you'd expect and it works great. Quickest and cleanest way I've found to precook them taters.

I'm gonna have to try that method. I've never wrapped or covered them, just pierce them and put them on micro-safe plate.

What kind of time does a single medium sized russet potato take and what it the machine wattage?

Medium sized is in the eye of the beholder, but I'm guessing about 3:45, in my oven @1100w.  Of note, my experience in a coffee cup is that the bottom end always cooks more, sometimes if it's a good sized tater I'll stop it half way thru and flip it over.

Sounds like flat on a plate is even easier and cleaner than the way I do it, I've just been happy with the cup results

I just rinse the potato with tap water and wrap it with a paper towel then nuke it  :smt001

I use the baked potato setting. After that I toss in skillet with butter, smash it a little, and fry till it looks good.

I've been doing it wrong all this time...   ?   I just set it in and go.. Two minutes, turn it over and cook another two minutes.    Sometimes they roll around and screech wierd noises.
Sometimes the fish isn't the only prize.
