Another great hookup. We were all on a Smallie mission, but it was not to be, only a few were rewarded with the target, but we all got into some fish.
I landed a fat 14.5 inch LMB in front of " BAMCAMP". First fish of the day was giant Crappie mike caught on the troll, Ill post that one in a bit, I have to get a frame from a movie... Hours later I caught a 20 inch Striper at Barn cove, I was using the Baitrunner reel, it was a gas to let him take lots of line before throwing the gears to him.
Nights and mornings were friggin cold, ice on the yaks. On the first night I ran into one of the posts around the lot, no advil/sleep for me :smt009 Itlooks worse than it was, even tho its a bit swelly still.
I gave da Mooch a watercolor I did to remind him of the Bean...
Mooches dog is the cutest! He did great on this first camping trip, when I first saw him I was thinking, A little princess in the woods, how cute, but he turned out to be a champion camping dog, swimming, growling at the coons. And bouys...
FAC water.
And a house fire on the ridge a mile away, everything went up, even the fuel tanks went, bummer.
-
OUCH!
-
Here's Mike's slab, and Adam is all about the release...
-
Looks like a great trip :smt001 :smt001
-
Ha Ive got the same wound from A faceplant @ Ocean Cove Campground on the rocks!!! Stupid Beer! Hurt like hell, in fact couldnt catch my breath for a cool minute.Looks like you guys had A blast....Moochs dog better grow A thicker coat! :smt005
-
Dang, I'm sorry I couldn't get down there. Looks like you guys had a blast.
I got hung up in this MLPA package deadline (due today). And I got my truck hugely stuck on Friday.
-
Holy Crap Ben. That looks like it hurt big time. Shit! Nice hook up sorry I missed it. Craig WTG on the release Adam :smt044
-
The trip started with bizarre NCKA synchronicity... I was truckin' north in the dark, just south of Petaluma when my phone rings and it's Adam asking where I am... he's just leaving Petaluma after checking for minnows... so we meet up in Santa Rosa and as we're rolling north I see Mooch pull up next to me in a Saturn... at the same instant Mickfish calls to see what's shakin.... So I'm following Adam, talking to Mike, looking at Mooch... completely unplanned and too funny.

It was gret to kick it with you cats for a few hours yesterday. Nothin' shakin' for me after you guys left. I was off the water at 5:00PM.
-
i got three days of back up here @ work, so i'll try and get some pics up at lunch.
another true NCKA hookup!! :smt052
-
No bites on the puppy huh? I heard they were $ for stripers... :smt044
Beautiful group report guys! Thanks!
-
really cool report
sorry about the leg Ben-the watercolor is f***ing fantastic tho!
Mooch-you got a dog-really?
.....file it under "required alaska equipment" I suppose?
thanks for the pics & tales you guys!
-
it was a strange morning, running into each other on the road up, but when we found minnows at Mendo Store, the strange feeling subsided and was replaced with JOY!
We were able to get the spots that get reserved a year in advance, so that was nice. Lotsa room&shade!
We hit the water as ASAP and Kylo was the first in the hatch. Soon he wanted to know what the shinny floor was made of.(see pic 2)
pic1~Kylo the lil'boy, soon to be a lil'MAN.
pic2~ curiosity wet the dog
pic3~ once upon a time, in front of BAM Camp!
-
What can I say - another great gathering with quality folks!!!
I brought my sister's dog = Kylo. He is a Pomeranian half Chihuahua pooch (almost a year old) that has never been camping. According to da boyz, Kylo passed with flying colors :smt002
-
Here's Kylo chillin at the campsite...and making friends :smt003
-
My minnow fooled a schoolie striper down by BAM Camp on the first day, along with small lrg.mouth(like Bens)and that was it for me on day one(&two :smt013)
but i was not here to fish, i was here for Kylo!(&Mooch) :smt003
pic1~ i had two of these beers, left over from a four-pack, from my SmithRiverRun, so i took them and drank both this trip!
pic2~just enough ChiliVerde & Rice to go around.
pic3~ what gets said around the campfire, STAYSaroundTHEcampfire!

more pics of my co-pilot....
-
pics of my co-pilot after a swim :smt003
-
Food was ofdahuk as usual...
Adam's pork burrito, Dave's pulled pork, my "home made" lumpia + secret sauce and Jedmos Filipino "Beep Stik" :smt003 We also had gilled asparagus from Allen, Pumpkin Pie from Eric B, Brownies from Ben's better half (Anita) and some other wierd dessert that I could no longer make room for...
I also brought a "fear factor" food known to the Filipinos as "Tuyo" = dried sardine bottled in it's own oil. Let's just say some liked it more than others :smt044
-
We also bumped into Chris aka "Jellyfish". He was out camping with his buddies. He had just finished pimpin his ride - mendo style :smt007
-
Jedmo now has a new nickname......
"Infidel" :smt068
-
Oops... I "forgot" to give you back the leftover beepstik outta my cooler, Jedmo... Guess what I had for dinner???? :smt002
And Jedmo wasn't the only one who earned a nickname that weekend... So did ole One Towel Leepin.
-
We also witnessed a house fire by the lake later in the evening....very close to the BAM site (hillside house overlooking the lake). We could only hope that no one was hurt :smt011
*note the fire's reflection on the lake on the second pic....
-
Adam and Joel "browmancing" at the campsite :smt008
-
theYakJacker!! he scared the bageebees out of me, coming up from behind like he did!
I tried the "tuyo", it was fishy, oily and fishey! That wierd dessert was Bens invention...and now i am an official fan of nutella, tortillas&whipped cream. :smt008
The BeepStik over rice was delish'!, as well as Daves'PulledFingerPork....Mmmmgood x2
pic1~ last one to the yaks, gets piddled on!(urine spritzer of excitement)
pic2~ Ben cried foul, as he was packing a snack for the long haul down to the waters' edge....the lowest i've ever seen the lake :smt010
pic3~ wave and smile at the camera
-
As far as fishing, Friday got ugly for about an hour....we encountered wind rain and lot's of sheep on the water. But we were blessed with GORGEOUS weather after that. The night's were super cold but we had enough wood to keep the fire burning.
My catch for the weekend:
A striper on a trooched minnow and a LMB (released) on a little cleo spoon.....got a nice SMB but it threw off the spoon when it went did an aerial maneuver on me :smt011
-
man... looks like you guys had an awesome time. I really wanted to make it up there but, things just didn't work out. no biggie though. there will be other hookups. wholly smokes... I hardly can recognize chucke's old 4runner. Jelly had been busy for sure.
freddie
-
almost forgot... OUCH!!!! ben... that looks like it hurt like a mother f'r... it hurt me just looking at it tough guy. hope your leg feels better soon.
yikes...
freddie
-
it came down hard with gail force winds, for about 30min, then it was oily-glass for the remainder!! From what everyone around here said, it was windy as hell, we didn't even get a breeze up there the last two days, WHODAthunk?
pic1~ NCKA morning attack
pic2~MoochsLumpia,,,,,this guy is a "PROVIDER"
pic3~hidden foilwrapped potatoes in the fire, just like jonesz does it!
-
So did ole One Towel Leepin.
That leepin dude introduced poor Kylo to the infamous and deadly "dutchoven". (he stuffed Kylos head inside his waders while he unloaded his natural gasses :smt011) Nearly knocked Kylo out cold :smt011 I wanted to avenge by smearing Kylos puppy poop under Allen's car door handle but I decided to be "the better person" :smt002 Instead, I gathered all the dog poop around the campsite, put it in a bucket, mixed it (with Allens coffee spoon) with leftover beer and threw 'em at Allen's truck :smt002
-
pic1~ farting round the fire
pic2~ next coarse please..... pulled pork on a bun!
pic3~ where is Glyn? he would eat this escapee "as-is" and love it!
-
Looks like ya'll had a great time up there. I didn't end up not making it cause a friend got sick and I hung out to do sum nursing. Ben that rap on the shin looked like another knee cap! Yeouch!! Good to hear it looked worse than it felt, cause it looked bad!!... Glad the weather cooperated. It was a little dicy on the forcasts. The lake didn't look as low as I expected. Looks like you guys managed to sample most of the variety the lake has to offer. See any boils this time of year? Mooch, your copilots' a cutie.
-
Allen said Kylo went in on his own(something about it smelling of peanut butter&jelly down there :smt104 )
pic1~ waiting to go fish wit the fellas!
pic2&3~ who else!
-
See any boils this time of year?
we saved that tater fer ya too! there was a report of one in the south area early sunday am., but we never saw it/one.

Thanks for the report and pics. Sorry I missed it.

-
That fish looks so small... I must be HUGE!
Thanks to Allen/Otobe/#2/Pa/One Towel for the loaner rod after I busted mine on a snag.
Ben speaks the truth, I had my doubts about Kylo but by the end of the first day I wanted to take him home. He showed up a spoiled mommas boy squeaky toy and went home a Dog.
-
Looks like fun guys. Thanks for the reports and pics. Sorry to have missed it.
Nice crappie Mike!
-
OK, now I know how those SMB should look like. :smt044 I swore up and down
that I had caught one. Good thing Mooch was there to catch my mistake. Not
use to light skinned LMB at Mendo compares to the delta's. I caught 2 LMB in the
15" range and 1 22" fish that I couldn't ID. I'll include a picture of it in a little while. Thanks Adam for posting the hookup. We had such a wonderful time hanging
out with you guys. Eric, make sure to tell your mom thanks for the delicious pumpkin pie. Oh BTW, my son Brandon loved the tuyo.
Jedmo
-
I know everybody will be proud I took a picture of the three days worth of collected trash at camp. Can anyone ID this fish? I wished I had taken more pictures of it.
Jedmo
-
A proud moment (for me at least): after 3 days of camping, our trash bag was size of small grocery bag AND we also had one small box of recycled cans and bottles. The foot print we left behind was indeed "small" :smt002
Thanks for making the effort fellas :smt008
*I'm hoping this will be something we can keep on doing so we can give mother earth a break :smt045

Sounds like a great trip! Thanks for posting and putting up the pix! Im bummed that I never made it up there.. was going to come up for half a day or so but the rain held off and I had to work friday and saturday. We used to keep a ski boat up there when they had a marina and Ive caught many catfish but never have even tried for stripers on mendo. One of these days! :smt004
All those great food pix are making me hungry!
