Eagle Fisheasy 245 DS (dual sonar)... By far the best bang for $100... and well suited to hold up to the rigors of kayak fishing.  No GPS though.

The Eagle 250 is made by Lowrance. It has a GPS with a fishfinder. Works great. Costs around 200 dollars.

Im thinking of getting a seperate gps unit for fishing, hiking etc. Any advice on those? Waterproof, durable, not complicated as I am one above a circus monkey in such technology.

I just got the Garmin GPS Map 76 CSx. It's a great unit. Picks up satellite signals much better than my old Etrex. Has good mapping, too. A bit on the pricey side, though.

guitarzan,

I use an eagle CUDA 242  $80 from cabelas. not quite as good a eriks, but I see rockfish @ bean hollow.

for gps I use a garmin etrex $99.

they are both about as simple and cheap as you can get.

good luck bro.
