So I got the port last week around 6pm and was graced with an awesome top water bite I hooked a striper dang near every cast throwing a heddon spook (small grade of fish). Decided to follow up yesterday in the morning to see if I could repeat my success but I ended up spending a ton of time on the water and only got a few mediocre bass to show for it didn't see a single striper! Admittedly though I kind of messed around early morning near the locks to see if I marked any salmon... fat chance. And squandered any chance of getting that early top water action.

Fish finder markings I believe were schools of baby striper but it also could of been shad they were heading.

Looking to probably hit it again tomorrow maybe a tad more seriously :p. Still trying to learn the port and I don't take bass fishing to seriously but if anyone wants to join I'll probably be in the parking lot of the barge canal by 730 or so. I'm going to load up my gear at 7.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

Well I hit it today at about 7:45... plan was to get a couple bluegill early and see if I couldn't hook into a big striper.... HAH. Apparantly I can't catch a bluegill to save my life, spent a good 2-3 hours at it and got stripped off once, other then that I couldn't pay them to bite my worms.

Come 10-11am I switched over to dropping plastics off the bottom, scored a striper early nothing special, decided to go try out the "bassy cove" and man I was in for non stop action all afternoon!!!! Hooked in to about 20 largemouth in a couple hours, up to about 2lbs, had a hell of a time! All on a small bass pro popper.

That will keep you busy and make for a fun time out.   Lol if you weren't trying for gills i beat you wouldnt keep them off your hook.   Its always nice putting a lil fish out in a spot he dont belong.   Thanks for sharing.
