I could not find it in the "Fishing Reg" . But this is the the hunting reg.

§251.7. Possession, Transportation and Importation of Game Birds.

(a) No person may possess any birds taken in this state in excess of the daily bag and possession limits. The exception to this is for the purpose of transportation, cleaning, storage (including temporary storage), shipment, or taxidermy services, where an individual may possess game birds taken by another hunter provided that they are tagged by the hunter who has lawfully taken them. The tag must contain the hunter's name, address, hunting license number, kinds and numbers of game birds taken, date and location of kill, and signature.

So, I think if it OK with the DFG on Game birds it must be OK with fish.

Are you talking about like having someone elses tagged abs or tagged sturgeon in your possession?  Like carrying them back to camp?  (saw the carring back to camp thing in court).

Anyhow, one thing I've learned in my lifetime, never assume that somethings OK, if the consequences of it not being OK are something you don't want to deal with.

Send that question to Carrie Wilson at dfg, she has been a great source for me in the past, I don't have her email right at the moment, (I'm at work) but she does a column in WON every week and her email is at the end of the column.

I got stopped a long time ago leaving my duck club with my buddies birds.  He had to go to a meeting and he was going to drive down to LA from Los Banos.  My duck club has a card we fill out with all that info.

He let me go after checking the birds.  We both had double limits for that weekend.  I was a little nervous at first.

But, I will check with Carrie Wison.

At home now, so here Carrie Wilsons email,  cwilson@dfg.ca.gov

In court I saw 2 guys, one had been given a ticket for an over limit of rockfish, they had been fishing together, and one went back to camp early, the warden gave the other guy the ticket because he had both their fish.  Since both guys showed up in court to expalin what happened, the judge said their explanation sounded reasonable to him so  dropped the charge.

I was there because I had forgotten to fill out my ab card, that warden even told me he believed me but that he just couldn't let it slide, cost me $250.

You probably didn't find it because the, "excepetion for transportation," does not exist for fish.
