Anybody have any magic sunscreen tips?

I'm getting fried no matter what sunscreen I use plus hat and shades.

I'm thinking sunscreen + zinc oxide, or maybe one of those bee keeper's hats with a veil or a waterproof burka.

Thanks

Have you tried bullfrog sunscreen? I used that when I used to surk all the time, it worked well.

I finally found a sunscreen that's easy to apply, won't sweat into my eyes later, and doesn't mess up my hands and bait!

It's Coppertone's SPORT SPF30 in a pump spray bottle.

I picked up a 12oz pump spray at the Vacaville COSTCO last week for about $7.00

My local Longs has the 7oz pump spray for about $12.00 (Still worth it!)

Remember, sunscreens take about a half hour to start working, so lather up before you get to the beach, than re-apply every 90mins or less.

The best thing about this sunscreen is how easily you can keep your face protected- just remove shades, close eyes aim and spritz face. It wont run into your eyes on application, or sweat into them later when you're fighting a good fish.

I wear a wide-brim Outdoor Research "Palapa Platter" hat w/ 4inch brim, and Cabela's Guidewear long sleeve shirts. These are SPF50 if memory serves.

I use a titanium dioxide sunblock.

It's not cheap, but it goes a long way since, you use very little and only need to apply once for the whole day.

Bullfrog makes an alcohol solvated sunblock that works quite well and doesn't leave a oily mess on your hands.

I have currently been using Aloe Gator spf40 ultra waterproof.

Apply early, apply often.

I re apply at least twice in a full day.

Sunblock loses effectiveness over time.  The reason is that the molecules change when they absorb the UV energy and lose the ability to absorb more energy.

Chuck -

I'll give it a try - it looks like it works in the same way as zinc oxide which is acually like a white cover layer?

I've been using all kinds of w-proof, spray, non-spray etc but none of them seems adequate by itself. I probably just have to use more than one approach and reapply more often.

Thanks for all the responses

That's a link to the alcohol bullfrog stuff.  I like it.

Another vote for the bullfrog al-kee-hol.  No grease so you can still hold your paddle.  10 days in baja with a lot of yakkin and swimming with no sunburns.  Great product.

Bullfrog Quick dry gell. The only way to go. As a PE teacher and football coach I won't use anything else. Apply in the morning and your good all day.
