Title: Doran Beach Crabbing video report
Post by: MooMoo Outdoors on November 28, 2017, 02:46:18 PM
For my son's first salt experience, we went out to Doran Beach for some crabbing last Saturday. There was strong SES wind when we launched at 11 am and it gradually subsided to mild wind by 3 pm. Didn't see too many kayakers on the water perhaps because it was windy and the water was choppy or because crabbing has been slow? Nonetheless, we had a good time.

Man, with each pull, I was rooting for you to get more legal dungies!  So suspenseful... lol.  Is it that difficult to get dungies out of Doran?  How many feet were you dropping?  Just straight out?  Glad you got out there with your son.  I took my son crabbing once when he was around 12, in bad conditions in HMB and he didn't want to go crabbing again even though we limited... lol.

Good job on getting some crab for dinner.  It can be tough at Doran these days.  10 or 15 years ago, when there were maybe 1 or 2 kayaks out there on the opener (including mine), it was a bit better... :smt003  Tends to get pounded pretty good early in the season these days.  Great place to take the family out though, good to see you getting your son out there.  Kudos!!

Based on the background scene in the video, it looks like you were no deeper than 17-20 feet.  Guessing you will need to be much deeper next time...

My son is 12 now. He got scared a little.

You are dead on. A couple of NCKA'ers limited out at 20 fow on opening day so I gave it a try but I should go much deeper next time.

It sure is. I need to train my son so he would last more than 3 hours on the water.

Taking my parents out camping on the 5th to the 8th in spot 101.  Forecast on the wind is below 10mph.  I’ve been watching lots of your tube videos.  Come by and hangout if you’re around.  I’ll be dropping pots to practice for the 2018 Crabfest...

Thanks for the invite. You're awesome.  :smt001 Unfortunately, I work those days and I won't be around. Good luck and have fun.  :smt006
