A quick list of some things that you might need to bring to make the event a bit more enjoyable.

- Wrist Bands. You will receive your tourney wrist band with a specific number on it for your fish photos starting 5AM tourney day. We will then remove this from you at the check-in at the end of your fishing day. Even if you catch no fish you need to check in. DO NOT take this off, if you check-in and there is no wristband on your wrist, you will be DQ'd and you will not have an entry in the drawing to win the kayak.
- A comfortable folding chair. The potluck area has picnicking tables but not too many, so just in case.
- Sunscreen - although it won't be super hot, the suns reflection off the water is a X2 for sun exposure. Let's BBQ ribs not faces.
- A watch  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 - seriously, remember you need to be off the water, go through your fish on your camera, fill out the points sheet, do the math and hand it in at noon, 1 minute late (via Iphone) and you're DQ'd  :smt010. Timing is essential.
- Registration ready - If you plan to show up the morning of, have your paperwork filled out and money ready to hand in. Hand it in, get a wristband/number and off you go...
- Trash bag - Just like all FreshKATs events we have a trash collection contest. We actually take this pretty seriously and offer a great prize to the person who collects the most lake trash. Bring it on!
- Swim wear and floatation for you and the kids. No lifeguard on duty at the pool.
- Potluck item - As always the potluck at any NCKA event is the bomb so let's eat like kings... and queens.
- Cash for Raffle $$$ - We have some great raffle prizes for this event. Tickets are $5 each, 5 for $20 or 12 for $40. So bring some cash to win some awesome prizes.
- Moderation cup - ha?? I will have both beer and wine available at a make shift bar somewhere. Please drink in moderation, no sloppy loud drunks falling in the pool please. :drool
- An open hand and a smile, everyone doesn't know everyone, that's for sure. Hopefully after this weekend a few new friendships/fish'n buddies will develop. I'll have some "Hello My Name is" stickies things for everyone to wear.... I am notoriously bad with names.  :smt012

Ok that's it people. Thank you everyone and I hope to see yall up at the lake. HeeeHawww  :cowboy_smoke:

I think the Algae bloom will be in full force, but the fishing is still great if you can get past the frustration of green slime on everything.

Clear Lake State Park has a really nice campground on the water with several launch options, showers, playground for the kids, and even a group camping area.  I've stayed there a few times and always been pleased.  There's also a campground on the South end near Oaks Beach Park's public launch.  I've never camped there but its near some great fishing!

I'm up for a weekend trip even if its not an official NCKA camp out!  Of course if it becomes "official" then that's even better!!

I'm down for artificial baits only. But I don't see the point in not allowing scents. Do we really need to make rules more restrictive than the bass boat guy's tourneys?

The other thing I wonder about is if going with artificial baits will hurt attendance. I think there will be some people that won't show but really......it will be their loss.

Whatever is decided I really hope to make this. jim

I agree, let make it fun, not too competitive. Besides its June, peak of bass fishing in clear lake. I am sure whatever you throw in there will get inhaled...

either way I am attending this one for sure....

I mentioned this in another thread. Live bait is not allowed in CA in bass tourneys as far as I know. DFW rules I believe. We had this discussion before about possibly the Salmon Slam and since bass were included we were not allowed to use live bait. Are we rule breakers? Bass are easy to catch in June anywhere on artificial lures.

When we had our boat CL and the Delta were our favorite spot to fish. Since having a yak I have yet to make it back up to CL. Going to do my best to be there for this event. As for multi species do not forget the monster crappie. I caught this bad boy on a big jointed jitterbug while on a night trip with a friend years back.

#3.  Only artificial lures may be used.

And from the main page.

Beginning in 1975, organizers offering prizes or other inducements for the taking of sport fish in any California water were required to obtain a fishing contest permit from the CDFW. Since 1985, organizers have been required to submit a “Fishing Contest Report” to the CDFW detailing the results of each permitted contest. In 1990, in an effort to gather more data, regulations were established that provided two types of contests, “Event” and “Annual.” An “Event” type contest permit is designed to regulate large fishing contests often run by commercial organizations. The “Annual” type contest permit is designed to gather data from smaller organized contests, such as those offered by bass clubs or individuals. Both types of contests are listed as they are entered into the tournament management database, and are available at the following link:

Section 230, Title 14, of the California Code of Regulations (CCR) contains the
regulations governing game fish contests. Section 2003 of the Fish and Game
Code authorizes the Department to issue a permit to any person authorizing that
person to offer prizes or other inducements in fishing contests, tournaments or
derbies for the taking of game fish. There are two exceptions: Permits are not
required for (1) frog-jumping contests or (2) fishing contests conducted in waters
of the Pacific Ocean. Game fish include the following species or species groups:
white sturgeon; American shad; salmon and trout--all species; goldfish; common
carp; hardhead; Sacramento pike minnow; western sucker; catfish and
bullheads--all species; striped bass; white bass; black bass and sunfish--all
species; tilapia--all species; sargo; bairdiella; and orangemouth corvina.

I think I did; is it this one? If so, doesnt it only apply to Black Bass Tourneys? And it does not state anything on "Live Bait"

#3.  Only artificial lures may be used.

And from the main page.

Quote

Also, from the "Instructions for Obtaining Permits ..." document ... file:///Users/asansano/Downloads/IF%20No.%2041%20Instructions%20%20for%20Offering%20Prizes%20for%20the%20Taking%20of%20Game%20Fish_2012%20(1).pdf

This is a multi species event weighted towards crappie.  Permitted as crappie.  Catch and release only.
We will also have the black bass exemption just in case.

You cant "turn in" any fish during the event.  No measuring at the check in table, all picture based.
What you do after the photo is up to you, we just dont want to see your fish  ;)

I deleted my post. However, I am surprised that it ruffled feathers. As a local I was just giving some knowledge; I was trying to be helpful. Conditions affect how I fish this lake at different times of the year. I was not deterring anyone from participating.

Jigs with rattles vs no rattles, heavier jigs with higher profiles, thick algae blooms are not beneficial for minnows so minnow guys may have to search a little for clearer water, etc.

You do not have the ability to take all the gear in the world in a kayak. Having intel can help make rigging decisions easier.

I have never gotten such flack for helping out. With this reception I will not be fishing this tournament.

For those who do fish it be proud of supporting such a worthwhile cause.

After speaking with one of the bait shop who is giving us a 10% discount, they said that minnows at that time of year are really no more effective than artificial baits. Call a few bait shops up there and get the skinny. I hope to see you at the event!

The entire fish must be photographed laying straight on a measuring board with either the fishes top or bottom jaw
touching the boards end (0” mark). We will NOT measure your fish nor will ANY fish be allowed at the check-in table.

So... it doesn't matter, open or closed, as long as one or the other is clearly touching the end of the board. I always thought that rule was unnecessary.  I think the fish's out of water time should be as short as possible.  :smt003

I still don't understand what the big deal or difficulty is in taking a picture of a fish with it's mouth closed. Lay it on the board, push it forward to shut mouth, take picture, release. Takes less than a minute open or closed.

It depends on the fish. A LMB with mouth fully open may be a bit smaller, but if a large LMB has its mouth only half way open it will be as much as a half inch longer than with the mouth closed.

So that's how to do it. I was wondering why all the fish I measured always had an open mouth. Forward pressure closes the mouth, good to know.

With bass, if you'll lay the measuring board between your legs with the stopper end at a slightly downward angle then gravity will slide the fish down to the end.  When the bottom lip hits the stopper the mouth will usually close right up for you.  If it doesn't, just make sure that the pectoral fin on the bottom side of the fish is laying flat and not folded backward.  If it folds backwards it will "upset" the fish and cause him to flip around on you.

The majority of the tournaments I've fished have specific instructions on how the fish must be laying on the measuring board.  For example:  For KBF tournaments the fish must be facing left, dorsal fin up, and the mouth closed with no visible space between the top and bottom lip.  It takes me no more time to get a picture in this fashion as it would if I just threw him on the board and snapped a pic.  It's all about what the angler is used to doing.  If the fish isn't as specified by the tournament rules then it's disqualified.  Simple as that.

I've not had my kayak in water like the summertime Clear Lake crud.  How will the algae ect. in the water affect the mirage drive on my outback?

My registration goes in the mail tomorrow. I am looking forward to fishing Clear Lake. I've only been there once before fishing at night for catfish. We caught some nice ones. My sister in law had her pole pulled into the water by a fish. Later we snagged on the line and were able to retrieve the pole, with the catfish still on the hook. Sweet!

The algae wont affect your drive at all.  At worst you'll have a scum line on the hull that you'll need to wipe off.  If you do it as soon as you leave the water it's easy to clean.  If you let it dry it'll take some elbow grease but it'll still come off.  I think my Pro Angler has a permanent Clear Lake racing stripe! LOL

Is this event like a continuation of the FreshKats series? I don't know how you guys manage to solicit so many cool prizes for an event that just sprung up. It seems like everybody who enters will win something.

I might also have two 4HDI units to give away. But receiving these units as support will be based solely on attendance numbers and a last minute call. But the 7HDI will be a prize.

No raffle is planned but it's a great idea. I have a few extra items I'm trying to line up including a pair of wheelezz. If all goes well and I can get these other items than a small raffle will be a go. $5 a ticket and yes 100% of that $$ will go to PIF.

No roll call on this one, but you're a good enough angler to know you really not fishing against others. At any point anyone can do well, so if you really think about it, you're really fishing against yourself... managing distractions, picking the right species, right baits, locations, etc. Well at least that is how I look at it. :smt002

Look forward to seeing you at the event bro... just you or fam too? Lil' dude must be getting big.

Wanted to share the most recent report

Clear Lake: Weeds are coming up and frog bite is beginning. Live crawdad bite is better than the minnow bite. Call ahead for crawdads. In the deep water in the south, use crank baits. Senko bite also is good. Water is a bit murky so fish are holding shallow. Post-spawn fish are starting to bite. (Updated 2014-05-28 21:03:21)

Hey guys,

I posted up a roster on the main page and will update periodically. We will also be excepting registrations by mail and Paypal/fax until June 23rd and then only at the event the morning of. As for t-shirts, we will still be only excepting orders until June 2nd (post marked is OK), so please get'em in if you want a shirt.

I was able to stop at CCK and talk with Jeff. He had the FeelFree outside and I was able to get some picts. Some lucky angler will win this, I'm pumped to give it away. Check it out...

Andie and I took a quick round trip drive to CL today to take a look at the venue and camp sites. Interesting place. Lots of open sites this weekend. Checked the water and noticed it was very green near the shoreline. I suppose that's normal.

Having never been here before, we decided to take a look at the state park too. We'll probably give the state campground a try next fall or spring when the temps are cooler.

It's hard to judge how Clear Lake is fishing by looking at boat tourney results.  The habitat, water clarity, and fish are very different from one part of the lake to the other!  I've had days up there where I struggled to get a hit down near Rattlesnake Island only to find out that someone up at the North End won a tourney with 36lbs and managed a 50 fish day!!!  That's why it's important to me to get to prefish so that I've for an opportunity to put something together!

Hey guys, sorry if this does seem funky. We did change the start time after some discussion, it's also on the reg form. Check-in starts at 5am and as soon as you're checked in and have your bracelet you can fish. You must have your points sheet filled out and handed in by noon , no exceptions. This gives you 7 hours to do your thing.

We have a lot of prizes to hand out at awards, pot luck, raffles, ect.  I would like to have everything wrapped up/ cleaned up by 5pm and sitting by the pool listening to a jam session with a great white in hand.  :smt001

I hope this clears things up and please be patient, I'm new at this and doing my best. See you guys at the event!

I read in the camping thread that there is a three night min to get a specific site reserved. Otherwise you get a site first come first served and you pick the site # when you show up from what is still available. With the reservation you are guaranteed that there will be at least one to choose from.

3 night minimum sounds kinda crazy, check with Rider on the camping thread regarding that. I think there will be plenty of room for all.

Ryan from C&C Marine has donated $200 in gift cards for the event. Awesoooome!!!
I don't know if you've been to his store, 7812 Auburn Blvd, Citrus Heights. He carries some of the hottest bass baits around, stuff you cannot find at other stores.

OK people, all I have to say is Wow! :headbang: We have a lot of great stuff worth thousands of dollars to hand out this Saturday. Seriously don't miss out, get your registrations in tomorrow!

Anyhow, I've been trying to get a hold of Edgewater since last week to cancel my reservation for this Friday night and Saturday night. I finally spoke to them and they refused to give me my refund saying I had to cancel in thirty days. I think that's total BS. Anyhow I paid for three person for those nights. I hope you guys can use the site on me. They never gave me a site # either saying that they will give it to me when I got there. I will never give them my business again.

According to their site, that is bull-s.  Here is what is on their site and I see nothing about 30 days.

"Cancellation Policies

Deposits for individual reservations are non-refundable unless canceled 7 days prior to your arrival.

Deposits for groups or multiple reservations are non-refundable unless canceled 60 days prior to your arrival.

Cancellation Fees:

Minimum $10.00 per site or cabin for deposits under $100.00
Maximum 10% of deposit for deposits over $100.00

Cancellation Policies for Group Reservations vary depending on the size, length of stay and arrival dates. Please call the resort at 800-396-6224 for information on group reservation cancellation policies."

Ok guys, that's it. Pre-registration is all wrapped up. I also hope those whom are on the fence regarding  the decision to come on out and register the morning of, pull the trigger. The weather looks to be awesome. This is going to a great family fishing event and to be honest you'll be sad you missed out, especially when you see all the prize winner photos.  :smt003 :smt003 :smt003 :smt003

Please go and review the main post on page 1. I have added a bunch of important info that may be very useful to you, especially if this is your first event this year. Also take a look at the sponsors, they really help to make an event like this possible and PIF whenever possible.

Ok, I have a few more sponsor items coming in which I'll post. Thanks everyone!!!

How can one make a 30days cancelation when I made it three weeks prior. :smt011 Anyhow, let's forget about this. I hope you all have a great time catching some monster LMB and giant catfish. Sorry to hear this bro, that a pile of crap regarding cancellation, have them defered to their website cancelation policy. I dont really like Edgewater. I love State park, clean and easy to deal with both reservation and cancellation. Anyhow still trying to work my schedule, couple of our cases are going to trial first week of July. I am pretty slam could use some fishing to blow some steam.

Thanks

I'm on duty today and will be baby sitting students at the barracks on base tonight but I'll be on the road first thing in the morning!!  Not sure where I'm staying yet tomorrow night, but I'll be on the lake fishing.  I told Edgewater I'd be checking in around lunchtime on Friday.  I'll probably end up at a different area of the lake tomorrow and might do some night fishing to reduce the amount of time that I'll likely be sleeping in the truck.  Friday will be prefishing time somewhere in the vicinity of Soda Bay.  I've got to go check on my fish that I found two weeks ago to make sure they are still there and that they're cooperative!  Looking forward to seeing everyone at my first NCKA tournament!

Had fun on the water today. I got one bite on my frog early but he let go after 30 seconds. I got a glimpse of him in the water before he started taking line. It looked like a good one. Unfortunately he spit the lure and was gone. That was my only bite of the day. The wind wasn't bad but the weeds were thick. Now it's a nice 85 and I'm sitting here enjoying a beverage and great NCKA company. The ribs are on the grill and the potluck party is getting started. Another epic event. Thanks to Mike, James and Jim for all the hard work. You guys came through big time. Thanks to the sponsors. CCK , Lowrance, EGO and more. Well it's just about time to chow down. If you're not here, you missed a good one.
