The egg loop snell  is a necessity for steelhead fishing with roe balls.  JD Richey has  a great video online demonstrating how to tie the knot. A few years ago,  I started using a a different technique to get the same result. It's just easier for me to tie it this way. Fewer tangles.  This video is the first I've found that shows the way I tie the egg loop snell these days

I use this knot for perching.  Great for holding soft-shell sandcrabs on.  Pierce the crab, then loop them on....

I use the same knot to tie two-hook mooching and quick-strike rigs.  There are a lot of YouTube videos which show how to tie up these rigs.  See, for example, the following video:

For lake trout fishing with dead bait, I make these rigs with two treble hooks.  When I make these rigs for fishing with dead bait, the upper hook, which I stick in the dead fish at its balance point, is pretty big so I can get the hook through the side of the fish and under its backbone.  The end hook is smaller, and I stick it in the head or gill plate of the fish with the points of the hook pointing towards the tail of the bait fish, because a lake trout always swallows fish head first.  An example is shown in the first picture below, although I now use smaller hooks for the end hook.  I also use these two-hook rigs with flexible trolling lures such as B-2 squid, as shown in the second picture below.

For kokanee fishing, I make these two-hook rigs with small single or treble hooks with a small rubber squid, hootchie, or wedding ring.

Thanks Bushy,  I never thought to use the eggloop while targeting surfperch.

Nice videos. When tying snell knots, I use my big toe to keep the line from kinking. I think I should make a video, as I’m pretty sure it’s a unique technique, haha!
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

I use my  tongue. Helps lube the knot as well.  I also use this snell  to tie top hook on my rat trap rigs, and double-hook mooching rigs. Just leave a really long tail end. Usually terminate with the Palomar knot though because it's reliable, and you can manipulate the distance between hooks by pulling one end of the Palomar or the other.
