Good luck Alex.  :smt006

Careful all. The is a pretty good swell period and the water was pretty surgy where I was  south of Moss landing. There was some debri in the water. Pieces of wood that can catch you off guard and hurt.

Was fishing with my trusty grubs that didn't produce but one perch. I believe the perch are a little farther out but you have to be careful of the surging surf.

I think blood or pile worms will be the ticket or scent your grubs. I usually don't scent my grubs, but with the water so churned up and cloudy I think it will help.

Look forward to the pics.

A couple of months ago this area was somewhat level. Now there is a embankment. I was almost caught between it and a huge surge. No bueno.

I spoke to Alien the " Perch Master " and he got skunked, except for a small striper he caught. Water was really churned up Thursday. I only caught one.
Now for me to only catch one, you know its gotta be slow.  :smt003

Me and a couple buddies went all over! Started in marina, nothing. Then headed sand city, nothing. Made it to Manresa, nothing.  Seacliff nothing.  A whole lot of nothing for the amount of fishing we did.  Water was pretty rough and dirty. The water was more calm and clear the farther south it seemed.  I didnt see many people with stringers at the Hall and everybody we talked to on the beaches hadnt had much luck either.   Was talking with some people at lunch and they said they had seen somebody weigh in a 2&1/2 pounder but thats all i heard.

I did not fish, but heard it was won with 2lb 6oz barred perch. It sounds like the majority of top fish were comprised of pile/black/striped perch. One halfmoon turned in (award for must unusual catch?).

No, most exotic catch went to a shovel.  Not a shovel-nosed guitarfish, but an actual shovel....  Chris Tran's perch was a lot bigger than it looks in that photo.  It was 15.25" and 2#6oz.

I have not completed a report yet, still cleaning up after the huge derby.  I'll post in a couple days, and we can also expect to see reports from Hurley Chronicles, FishSniffer and WON.

Thanks for all the support it is so great to see the growing NCKA contingent at this yearly event!

We expect to present the Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout Project with a $5K check, again this year!

Thanks for your time and efforts Allen. Funds going to a great cause. 15.25 is a good size perch. Most people i spoke to were having little luck or small fish with an occasional dink striper in the mix.
