Thank you Eric for putting on this tournament.  Are you including Cabs and greenlings in the rockfish category?

Thank you, Terry!

Great question.  Yes - cabezon and greenling can be turned in for inches, but any fish in the RCG complex will count as "rockfish", so only one RCG can be turned in.  This may seem contradictory to my halibut strategy, where one Californian and one Pacific could be turned in, but that's how it's going to go.  I'd like us to have a smaller impact on RCG species than the bigger game fish in lingcod and halibut.

Just spoke to Brandi - she is down for bringing her veteran Gyotaku skills and organizational prowess to the event again!  The Gyotaku will be on Sunday this year, time to be announced, but it should be early enough that people departing on Sunday can participate.  So stoked about this!!   :smt007

Here's a press release from CDFW showing that the rockfish season is just one formality away from approval:

I have the registration materials and a fresh message up on the 1st post.

Get it.   :smt004

The alternatives for this year's rockfish season, both showing that May will be open in the Mendocino Management Area in waters 20 fathoms and less, have been forwarded to the Office of Administrative Law for final approval.  It is my understanding that there is very little chance, if any, that the OAL will alter or deny the approved season structures.

I'm working on preparing my registration forms and will attach them and make a more detailed announcement soon.   :smt001

Looks like I better whip up a fresh batch of Fisheducator's crema sauce... just sayin'

Now I'm the stoked one!   :smt007

Funny story:  years back, I asked Tim what's in his famous crema sauce.  He was immediately taken aback and quite indignant, replying with "There are like 23 ingredients!"  Put me in my place for sure, my brother!!      :smt005 :smt008

If all goes well, we will all enjoy some of Jack's tacos with your famous and rightfully proud crema sauce within a couple months.   :smt001

Thank you, Paul.  I'm looking forward to that 3/26 final decision.

Any update on the final date yet?  Last I heard, May 11th but maybe May 4th.

Waiting for final word on rockfish season - should know early next week.

I am so fucking excited about the possibility that this could actually happen. The chance to reconnect the brotherhood. The brotherhood that has meant so much to me for so long. A brotherhood forged by the sea and our mutual need to survive and thrive in the sea. Interacting with Mother Nature on such a simple yet gritty and honest level with people I truly care about. That is what makes me happy. The lost coast is so special. I will make a million fish tacos and take out the trash too. Anything for my brothers.

Preach!  Stoked that you're stoked, bro.   :smt007

I’m reminded of great adventures not so long ago of salty voyages in a lost area of the Northern California coast.
