Welcome fish N disk
You live in a perfect area to target multiple freshwater species throughout the year without having to deal with too many crazy boaters. Lots of folks on here targeting stripers, if you aren't ready for tournament attend or create a hookup at the Port? Good way to meet other yakers and see how they rig etc. Anyway just an idea.  :smt006

Things do not look good but I still hoping the ocean can heal itself!! Also hoping to at least get a few more abs next year!!! Here is a link to an article I recently wrote for yak angler

 http://www.yakangler.com/spotlight/item/3939-diving-abalone-kayak

There should also be a decision coming up soon, I have been keeping in contact to hear what happens, will keep you all updated when I find anything out.

In all my years of boating and yakking the delta, I have yet to venture into the preserve. Definitely on my short list of places to check out.

Hit me up when you decide to make the journey Wes, It really is an amazing fishery! I miss that place most of all since I left the delta. Ill be at your old home water on Monday chasing crappie and stripers :) that will have to fulfill my fix for now!

Just a heads up for those interested ... Daisey a 14' female great white has been cruising the point arena cove recently. Saturday as my dad and I were diving in the super murky water she decided to give the kayakers just south of us a couple love taps :) One guy was able to get a picture and sent to farralon shark study place and was able to get the name and other info of shark. Fishing was terrible both sat & sun water was dark dark brown. Should of tried for salmon I guess !   :smt006

I had no idea they were making ultra-lite tarpons..and in camo ?!?!! Hot damn!! do they make the140 in camo ultra-lite? Thanks for sharing your fun.

I do not believe they make the tarpon 140 in ultralite only the 120 , based on my search of wilderness site and quick google search. If you ever want to try out the 120 just let me know... you are not that far away.... and though we have not met we frequent many of the same events :)

Thanks for sharing the adventure. I've always wanted to do this on the Navarro.

Im down, you want to go in the next couple weeks after the rain? Ive always wanted to launch on mt view rd and go down to hendy woods, through some uncharted beautiful country, but that can only be done during high flows and needs a bit of coordinating, hendy woods to the mouth might be a good start but im down for either, let me know if you want to cross either float off the list sometime soon!!

Thanks all for the kind words on the video, it was good times, not often I get to yak with my brother!

Great video, and man is that pretty!

Makes me wish I hadn't sold my little Liquid Logic Coupe (10'). That was tons of fun to scoot around on.

Thanks! Yea I needed a smaller yak to use for such occasions, going to keep it light and simple no FF or anything of the sort.

Fun video. I wanna go paddling now.

More rain coming, creeks allover going to be coming up... or go sturgeon fishing & get towed around!

Cool!

95% of the time I am running a T160 in the ocean. Sometime I forget all the neat places and fun things you can do with a smaller kayak.

Thanks for the video.

I bet racing rob would take his 160 on this run  :smt044

Good stuff, Kevin!

Did you see any fish spawning on the tailouts or holding in pools?

Ya know day 1 I was so focused on the river and being safe I did not even look for fish... Day 2 I was so focused on my brother and both our safety I didn't even really look. A couple times I though sure would be nice to fish this hole but that was about it. Was actually kind of nice to just enjoy the creek and surroundings and not worry about catching fish the whole time.

when is the video of the class 5 rapids :smt044 :smt044

Ive done class 4 on the trinity in an inflatable kayak, got pics but no video. but that was when I was a lot braver in my early 20's. Feeling old these days, those class 1's are enough for me :)

The rapids may not be huge but, they were plenty big and fast to get my heart pumping. Got my new Tarpon 120 Ultralite and couldn't wait to test it out. Drove to a remote creek did a bit of scouting and had some fun for a couple afternoons. Oh and it was also my trial run for my kokatat pants and jacket, worked great, stayed dry both days. As for the new yak ... I loved being able to carry it like a suitcase to the launch! And as for how it handled.... there is no wipeout footage clips  :smt003 Really impressed!!!
