I need to get some OTW practice time with some of the new gear I bought for my October 10 day trip on the Intrepid, so I'm going to book a 3 day trip sometime between now and August 14th.
Any interest? I just started looking at trips in this range yesterday. Some of the boats that have open trips are Polaris Supreme, Islander, and the Searcher. Cost is from $300 - $400 a day.
I'll post more info when I narrow down my search, but need to act fast because once the BFT bite goes off these trips are going to sell out fast.
Any boats I'm considering will have staterooms. :smt003
-
Dustin, you got to check to this site out then....its my go to intel for Socal Salt....976-tuna.com (http://976-tuna.com)
-
Yeah, I've checked there a few times and I've also scoured the Bloodydecks forums. :smt003

Hell yeah. Let me know if you come across any trips you like.
I'm busy at work today, but will continue my research this evening.
The Searcher has a few 3 days to choose from, but I don't know anything about the boat. My only criteria is that the boat is as big or bigger than the Islander (85' x 24') and have staterooms.

Bushy is likely in as well. Not sure if you heard, but we had to cancel our Panama trip last week, so have a desire to backfill.

There's still spots on the October 10 day trip I'm going on! :smt002
That sucks about Panama. I hadn't heard.

My brother and I might be interested. You guys are on the 10/10 trip?

The 10 day trip I am on is Intrepid trip #21.
-
im interested :smt001, depending on when the trip will be.
-
I was looking for a 2 or 3 day trip.
-
Here's what I've found so far. I'm actually going for a 3 day trip. Not listing 2 days.
Islander:
3.5 day, July 30 - Aug 2, 11/24 open $1330 ($380 per day)
Shogun:
3 day, July 16 - July 19, 21/30 open, $1200 ($400 per day)
3 day, July 23 - July 26, 3/26 open, $1275 ($425 per day)
3 day, Aug 6 - Aug 9, 5/28 open, $1205 ($402 per day)
Searcher:
3 day, July 13 - 16, 24/27 open, $1155 ($385 per day)
3 day, July 16 - 19, 27/27 open, $1155 ($385 per day)
3 day, July 31 - Aug 1, 17/27 open, $1155 ($385 per day)
-
My preferences are:
1 - Polaris Supreme trip
2 - Islander trip
3 - 2nd Vagabond trip
4 - 2nd Shogun trip
5 - last Searcher trip
6 - Any other.
-
Tigerfish likes the Shogun.
-
BTW - whatever trip is chosen, I'm more than likely going to book by this Monday.
-
I can test out your new gear next month if you like :smt002

Here's mine:
Polaris Supreme: 90' x 25'
3 day, Jun 28 - Jul 1, ?/24 open, $1230 ($410 per day)
Wednesday through Saturday
Pros - Lightest load! Most "long range"ish of the available boats doing 3 day trips. Leaves at 2:00PM, so you could possibly jam down early morning (But see below). Only 3rd trip of season for them, so boat will be in great shape hopefully. Pretty sure they have a water/soda fountain.
Cons - Boat leaving at 2:00PM means you lose half a day of fishing (Although their website actually says the trips will leave as soon as the previous trip is off-loaded and the next trip is loaded.). Early season could be BFT or bust or smaller YT.
-
Islander: 88' x 24'
3.5 day, Jul 30 - Aug 2, 11/24 open $1330 ($380 per day)
Sunday through Wednesday
Pros - Even though it's not a kayak trip I feel like the Islander is "our" boat. It's a Braid sponsored trip and it's a light load of 24. 3.5 day means you don't have to be there the day before and it's maximum fishing time. It's later in the season, so best chance at variety. All inclusive - no extra fees for permits or fuel surcharge. Water and soda fountain.
Cons - Not sure how good Capt John is at finding the fish is all I can think of, other than it would be nice to check out a different boat. Most expensive trip, but I think worth it for the extra half day.
-
Vagabond: 80' x 24'
3 day, Jul 6 - Jul 9, , ?/? open, $995 ($332 per day) Accurate Sponsored
Thursday through Sunday
Pros - Captain has a great reputation. Accurate sponsored and one of the cheaper trips. Water/soda machine.
Cons - Morning departure means will have to be there the previous day. Not sure of passenger load, but it's more than 28. Funky stateroom lay-out with no guarantee of getting a room unless booked early. Mexican permits & visas, beer, soda, Federal Excise Tax and possible fuel surcharge are extra.
-
Shogun: 90' x 30'
3 day, Jul 16 - Jul 19, 21/30 open, $1200 ($400 per day)
3 day, Aug 6 - 9, 7/28 open, $1205 ($402 per day)
Both Sunday through Wednesday
Pros: Good boat with good reputation. Second trip is prime variety time.
Cons: Has a slight history of leaky heads downstairs that can flood rooms (but mostly on longer trips). Possible permit and fuel surcharges. Early morning trip, may need to be in SD prior day.
-
Searcher: 95' x 24'
3 day, Jun 22 - 25, 6/27 open, $925 ($309 per day) Accurate Sponsored
3 day, Juy 13 - 16, 24/27 open, $1155 ($385 per day)
3 day, Juy 16 - 19, 27/27 open, $1155 ($385 per day)
3 day, Juy 31 - Aug 1, 17/27 open, $1155 ($385 per day)
Pros: 1st trip is Accurate sponsored.
Cons: Possible fuel surcharge and Mex permit charge. Funky stateroom layout. No soda/water fountain.

You are killing me Meng!!!! If only I don't have a trip scheduled this month? I will join you!!! Maybe next year! :smt006

But you still get 3 full days of fishing, right? 29/30/31
Tempting.

Nope. No such thing as June 31st. :smt002
You get whatever fishing you can on Wednesday, then full days Thursday and Friday, then back at port at 7:00AM Saturday.
2.5 at best.

As much as I'd like to try out a new boat, I'm leaning mostly towards the Islander.....or the Shogun.
Both trips are best time for variety fishing.

I can't do the Shogun dates. The Islander dates are a maybe right now. Don't hold up on my account though, no way I can decide this weekend ...

Yeah, the rush for me is that my family is coming down to play in SD while I'm off fishing and it's Vy who needs to put in her vacation time hella early.
If it was just me I could pretty much just smash out whenever I want to. :smt004
Actually, if it was just me I'd be hopping on the 7 day Intrepid trip leaving in a few weeks. JRI sponsored. All the jigs and Coronas you want...plus you get a custom Hooker Intruder wahoo trolling lure.
-
im interested :smt001, depending on when the trip will be.
Do the dates for the Shogun trip or the Islander trip work for you, Tommy?
Anyone else? Bueller?
