Anxious about the opener. Anxious about the opener. Anxious about the opener.
It's just another day.
I'd rather fish a better day a week later than a shitty day on the opener.
Will the fishing be worse a week later with better conditions? ...no.
Will it be better fishing...more than likely.
Pick your battles.
Look at it like this. Would you rather have patio dining during a wind storm or during a calm day? Fish are surprisingly the same. Big swell makes for lockjaw syndrome. They seek shelter. Calmer seas make them want to come out and play.
Better wx makes for an all around better day OTW.
+1

I’ve got 8 months of weekends to fish if I don’t like the forecast.

Really don't like swells like that especially when it comes from behind you.

At the end of last season, there was a day in Sonoma with a 6.5 WNW Primary swell...not too bad but lumpy.   After fishing for an hour or so in the same spot, we started to get tired of fighting the ripping current going the other way.   As we made our way back toward launch, a random weird sleeper cross-swell situation happened about 25 feet behind us (where we had just been fishing about 2 minutes prior).  There was a violent wave collision that could have easily flipped a kayak, and made things dangerous, especially with the strong current and proximity to the rocks we were fishing.  It was sketchy and unexpected.
