Kayak Fly Fishing / Re: Fly Line for Jetty Fishing

If you go to a shooting head I would run 40# mono as the running line (its cheap)and then regarding the head look at your rod and it should have a grain weight. You will want about 30 foot of head and calculate the weight for the head and use the t# x 30 feet to get the correct overall head weight to match the rod. Don't be afraid to go a little heavier cuz you can always trim off some length to get it to load the rod properly. With a shooting head you are looking more for castability and being able to punch thru the wind. I run 7 to 15 feet of tippet on the end. I like to strip the weighted coating off the level and tie a perfection loop for the tippet to go on to. I just double nail knot a loop onto the back end.
Level t14-t20 is 30# test so I use 20 # tippet so I minimize loosing the level T. Another way to go is use Scientific Angler Wet Cel type 6 sinking line its real cheap and you can get deep with it. I have caught Lings with it.

Safety First / Re: Question on inside layer of dry suit
« on: September 25, 2017, 11:57:50 AM »
I use Under Armor Cold Gear as a base layer top and bottom.
I use tall Merino wool socks to the knee and Redington IO Fleece Fishing Pant for Waders, this setup I can wade in sub 40 deg. water all day. Then for the top I wear a fleece vest. If it is real cold I have a wool sweater I will also put on under the vest
By the end of the day I do get damp but still warm. If I get to damp or hot I will unzip for a short period of time to dry out if conditions are favorable.
Mostly I don't notice the damp until I am back on the beach and get out of the suit.

Wow I get flamed for seeing an error in a waiver that can cause the organizer a problem legally. We live in the SUE ME STATE where something like a typo can be used by someone that does something stupid and then tries to sue the organizer and ruin a great event for everyone.

I was looking at the signup form and it is unclear if the shirt is included or do we add the shirt to the purchase?
Also the date on the waver is 2016

The dates are 2017 when I opened it up.
$25 REG.
Clothing is extra.

I just looked again and it is 2016 in the text 2017 in the header

I have the Hydrus 3L suit and I have not had a problem other than the wrist gaskets are so tight. But all a drysuit does is keep your insulation layers dry. It is so easy to not layer up and all you need to do is go in the water without layers and you are just as cold as not having anything,
your just dry and cold.

I wear cold gear base layer, merino wool socks to the knee then Fleece wader pants then cold gear top and a fleece vest as a minimum. on cold days I use under wader jump suit also. I do get hot but not uncomfortable but it beats going into the water and not being able to get out before the cold sets in.
