Also, wanting one kayak to do everything is only going to lead to disappointment.  A short, wide and stable kayak might sound good for rough conditions, but it could not be further from the truth. Longer and thinner are what you want for rough conditions.  It would be fine on a lake though. But A tandem will never be as good as a single either.

Look for a Malibu 2 XL or Perception Tribe or Malibu Pro 2 in the classifieds for $300-500. Or a new one on sale around $600-700. Make sure to checkout or call the local shops, especially the ones w/NCKA discount. Another option if you buy it used from someone, is paying with your CC using paypal.

RUN away from that kayak. Listen to the advise that has been given here by the other guys that have been around a long time. If I had one for sale right now I would let you use your credit card to buy me some race car parts to get even that way. Done it before.

Also, wide does not mean stable. I know of a few wide kayaks people thought were stable that are far from it. There is a lot more to stability than width. Hull design is number one in stability. I have one of the narrowest kayaks out there at 16' long and 28" wide and it super stable even in the absolute worst of conditions. I mean the worst.

I'm hoping this is a joke or my sarcasm radar is malfunctioning,  but if you want your wife and child (and yourself) to survive the excursion, please don't take them out in the ocean in this boat.

Don't buy this or you will feel like an ass when you get to the ocean.

or CCk or even adventure sports
and buy an used kayak from them. or better yet, tell them that you want to demo them and see what fits you better.

when you know more about kayaks you will smile and remember that you almost got stuck with this useless piece of plastic from wallmart.

Holy cameltoe...I hope yall pay more attention to directions at work than u do on here! I never said I was or would putting 3 people on it. Thats stupid and if u said that in one of your replies you should feel stupid too. Nor would I put my girl n son on it in the ocean. Thats ignorant. I did get some good info and price ranges from some of the more intelligent folks though which was the goal and very helpful so thanks! Im new to kayaking, not new to using my brain.
