Boats may not have brakes but they do have reverse to slow and halt forward momentum. Bikes? overall a good thing despite a few abusers of rationality on the roads. First paved roads in the nation were done by bicyclists to mitigate the harsh ride using solid rubber tires. Cars, motorcycles, and even airplanes (think Wright Bros) all owe a debt to the bicycle and bicycle mechanic.

Well, that changes EVERYTHING! Thank you Lance Armstrong for paving hwy 1 for all of us to drive on.
On another note, they were pussies even back then and couldn't ride on a bumpy road. They claimed "the right to a smooth ride" and forced the government to crush stone, mix with tar oil, and roll out a smooth path for them to pedal on so their tush didn't get bruised right along with their fragile sensibilities. Gotcha.

Point is, bicyclists should adhere to the unwritten law of gross tonnage as should kayakers.  Would you rather be "right," or "alive?"
THIS ^^^  Right or wrong, common sense should supersede all. Anything else is just evolution in action.

Bicyclists lobbied for and paid for the first smooth hard packed roads in both Great Britian and America. Once the railroad took over the stage coach traffic, roads deteriored drastically. You might do a bit of reading of the history of the bike and roadways

I am a hoof n shoe kinda guy. Been reading up on that history-more interesting. Louis Lamour tells it like it is. After seeing Pee Wee's big adventure, I kind of let the whole bicycle thing go. Lipstick on a pig kinda thing.

What a ride this thread is!     :smt044  Just learning the local "culture" of this place.  Interesting to see it devolve to bicycle banter.

Go back in the archives and find a thread that starts in December-February. That’s where the real fun is.

And for that stupid ass question do I stop at a stop sign. Yes I do, 100% of the time, looking all directions.  If you don't, you'll find out one day why you should.
If you ain't first, you're last.
