As some of you all know, my good friend Tracy Cockerham's son Connor died from Stage 4 melanoma earlier this year...

Tracy is an amazing woman who gives a LOT of her time and $ to charitable causes (LLS, Melanoma, PIF) and if you were at PIF you heard her name called out several times for winning prizes...

http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/santacruz/ci_25839002/santa-cruz-woman-champions-warnings-against-melanoma

http://mfne.org/about-us/board-of-directors/

Also...our very own e2g's wife (and shark_bait's Mom) Robin Tsuji has been diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma as well...

I will be running the Nike Women's 1/2 Marathon on October 19th in honor of Robin and in loving memory of Connor and Mooch...

Even though Joel didn't have melanoma I always run in his memory... no matter what kind of cause I am running for or raising $ for....his memory gives me strength and I look forward to spending the time thinking about him.  :smt008

If you can afford to make a donation, any amount is greatly appreciated.

All $ donated goes to AIM at Melanoma. AIM is a non-profit whose goal is to increase support for melanoma research and patient resources and education.

http://www.aimatmelanoma.org/en/aim-for-action/1158/1159/nikemarathon-2014/7735.html

Also...if you can make it to the Watsonville area on Saturday 9/20 we will be doing a fundraising party at my buddy (and fellow Team Mooch member) Miguel's house...there will be good food and cold drinks and a ton of fun for a good cause.

Headed up to SF over the weekend for the Nike Women's Half Marathon!

This year I was really part of two teams...Team Ginger and Team Mooch Strong!

Raised over $1,700 for Melanoma Research with the help and support of awesome friends and family and was proud to run in the memory of Connor Cockerham and Mooch and in honor of Robin Tsuji!

http://www.aimatmelanoma.org/en/aim-for-action/1158/1159/nikemarathon-2014/7735.html

Race was TOUGH but had a blast!!

Had 11 people out there in Team Mooch jerseys!!

Ana, myself, Wendy, Blanca, Miguel, Juan, Zarahi, Quetzal, Felix, Estela, Marco...Team Mooch taking over!!  :smt003 :smt004

Really cool to see people who never even met Mooch out there running in his memory...Mooch lives!  :smt008

Thanks again to everyone for all their help and support!!

I finished 117 out of 175 in my Division, but better than last place right??

Right on Jim!  Was thinking about your team last weekend.  Its great that you have a strong turnout for the effort.

the prior weekend, i ran my ultra while everyone was at HMB.  I tripped 2x while running at speed, thought I broke my leg early on and considered bagging it at mile 11.  But realized its a real privilege to have an opportunity to run and recreate, especially when doing it in someone's honor.  5+ hours and 50K on course gives a guy some thinking time.  Had several moments when I thought about how mooch would think i was crazy running that distance, the memory spurred me on.

Great job Martin!!!  :smt007

You crazy running that far!!!!  :smt002

Yeah, I for sure enjoy talking with Mooch while I'm running and letting my thoughts go...There was one beeotch of a hill around Mile 10 and I asked him for some help and I could feel him pushing me up it...  :smt008

Way to go Jim!  That sounds like a serious run in the hills!

The jerseys look great btw.  what's your secret to getting entrance year after year?  That damn race sells out like in 45 seconds or some chit.

Thanks Al and Bill and Martin!!

I liked the jerseys, but think I prefer the ones from previous years better...this year we had more words on front and it made it harder to read...I could see bystanders trying to read it as I "flew" by.  :smt002 :smt005

We've been signing up via the Group Lottery system...this year we split people into three teams (Team Mooch, Team Mooch Strong and Team Ginger) and all three teams got in...I'll let you know when we are doing sign ups next year and maybe you can join us if you want??

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

ps...this year was a totally different course and I liked it better in a lot of ways...just felt "weird" cuz I was so used to the old course that hadn't changed in forever.  This one was hilly right at start, then mostly flat, then one big ass hill, then downhill and flat to finish. Seemed less congested and crowded on course and at finish area and a Safeway was right there for post race beers and then we walked to this cool Saints bar for more beers and called an uber taxi from there.  :smt004
