Just got off the phone with reservations, they say it is open unless it floods ( which has only happened once or twice )

Go to GUALALA POINT CAMPGROUND
Reservations (707) 565-2267 or
www.sonomacountyparks.org/camping

If you click on check availability and then on a site it gives you a picture and dimensions of the site.

This route is only a 20 minute longer drive. Hard to believe.

Choices..Choices...none of them good. The shorter scenic ( twisty route ) or the long boring I5 / 505 /37/ 101 route  :smt012

Fisheducator, if you like your breaks and lunch, take either 20 into Ft Bragg or the long way down to 101-healdsburg-gurneville,hwy 1 and back up. MTN View Road heading west will fry your brakes. at least it did mine the one time I took it :(

Yeah thanks, I made the mistake of taking that road ONCE with a cabover camper and almost ended up in the ocean at Manchester  :smt012

We're coming from Eureka… Not sure which road we're going to take… I'll be pulling pop up trailer. I'm thinking about leaving the trailer and just getting a hotel room after hearing your stories about the road. :smt009

I drive over that in my motorhome with my kayak trailer loaded. If you know how to do it your brakes will be fine.

Depends on the vehicle also, I was being good and still had both feet on the brakes at Hwy 1...was told to not set the parking brake at the KOA campground or they would warp... BTY, this was a 74" Chevy 3/4 ton, non diesel

It's not about being good, or going slow. It is how you actually drive the vehicle and actually use the brakes. Low gear, do NOT drag the brake at all. Brake hard, fast and almost come to stop, then release and let compression slow you till you need to brake hard again. As you let compression take over the brakes will cool enough to work at the next hard braking. Until you actually learn to do it and practice you will overheat brakes on hills. I tow a 10,000 pound trailer behind my gas powered 13,000 lb motorhome. Never had braking problems even down the steepest of hills. Yes the trailer has brakes, but done wrong they won't help out either.
