For those who were at GS9, you heard Eric announce the news that our good buddy Jeff aka JWR is currently in the process of kicking Cancer's ass!

We raised our voices and glasses (multiple times!  :smt002) and sent him out some good vibes during GS9, and I wanted to share the information here for those who were not able to be with us at GS!

I found Jeff's message below super inspiring and my hope is that whenever you are out celebrating life, and the water and kayak fishing/diving you will send out some good vibes and energy to our brother.

Kick It's Ass Jeff!!!!!!

Quote
Eric - As I said earlier I won't make it to GS this year.  However, I will be wearing last year's 'pro staff' hoodie (like I am now) on the day of the event.

Jim - Thanks for the invitation to T2B but unfortunately I have to pass on that worthy cause as well.

I've got a 90% cure rate type of throat cancer and the prognosis is good.  I've just got to go through a little hell to come out the other side.

I've been through my 4th weekly chemo out of 7 and my 17th radiation treatment out of 30 (5 days a week).  So I'm just past the halfway point.  My last treatment is scheduled for Cinco de Mayo and I figure I'll be pretty washed out and laying low the rest of May.

I have decent insurance and excellent medical and family support.  I'm not looking for any donations or anything like that.

What I am requesting is that when you gather the group together for the awards ceremony (or whenever else you deem appropriate) you ask them for a 'moment of energy'.  Stephanie and I don't need any 'moments of silence'.  Ain't nobody dying we're just sick. (Jim-remind Stephanie that there are a lot of A.L.L. survivors out there.)

A moment of energy would be everyone just doing a shout out of a 'boo-yah' or 'kick its ass' or some other positive vibe sent from my brothers and sisters in the dive and kayak communities.  I'm sure with that volume of love sent over the ether I'll feel it and I can use all the help on the energy front I can get.

Please send it to Stephanie and anyone else in our family that is in need as well.  We can't be the only two with serious issues.

My cancer isn't a secret so it's fine to tell folks.  But I haven't (and probably won't) be posting it on my Facebook page.

Like most of us I prefer to project the 'tough son of a bitch' facade.  It helps me get through this on bad days.

If you like I'll send you an update on my progress (the beard all fell out and I have no eyebrows  but I still have my hair).

Thanks for all you guys do for people.  You're definitely banking up karma points.  I'll see you on the water later this summer.  Go get 'em brothers.

-Jeff

Jim

I was making Hot-Pot on Friday at GS. Was wondering what happened to the trio (JWR, TW, NovatoDave) that normally hangout at my kitchen. Thought Jeff would've love this. I was extremely sadden to hear this news on Sat, but is somewhat relieved that Jeff is in high spirit and will kick the cancers ass  :smt023 :smt041 I'll make you Hot-Pot the next time you have the appetite for it. Just let me know my friend!!!
