Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: hobie mirage drive durability
« on: July 15, 2021, 08:56:05 PM »
My spine broke on my drive and only had it since august on a 3k hobie outback. I rinse it off, dry it and treat it like a baby after every outing. Luckily the spine about $400 part was under warranty. Took my drive to the dealer because the drive was a little too loose and the bearings were showing a little bit. They made it worse by tightening it too much and then the drive started grinding really loud and the bearings popped out even more.

I brought my drive to my dealer because my drive was too loose and the bearings were opening up. He tightened it and a week later the spine and bearings broke. I haven’t picked it up from the dealer yet but hoping it doesn’t happen again. 2020 hobie outback I got in August of last year. Really thought it would last longer than this.

General Talk / Re: San Quentin Launch

I’ve launched by remillard park there’s a little bit of parking off sir Francis, it’s where the wind surfers launch . It’s pretty rocky and on a strong negative you might get a little muddy but not too bad.

Hey, kind of necroing this thread but I wanted to follow up on some recommendations here as I'm looking for a new rod.  My go to has been a heavy or medium heavy (I forget) Ugly Stik Tiger Elite for a while, and it works just fine for me, but I would like to go lighter on my next rod.

Looking at the Shimano Trevala 7' ML Eddie mentions, and my main question is on the lure weight rating.   It only goes up to 4 3/4 oz, and I often fish more weight.  I tend to be careful with rods I cast with for shore fishing an not exceed the lure rating as I don't want to mess them up, but I don't know how much that matters with a jigging rod as I have only used heavier ones.

Would that ML handle 8oz or 10oz of lead vertical jigging despite being rated a lot lower?  Any insight would be appreciated.  Thanks!

I would go with a medium trevala if you want to go a little heavier. I have both the light and medium and if I am going 8 oz or more I am using the medium rod. The light will work but it will bend a lot.

Maybe someone can make sense of cdfw website I copied it still don’t understand it
The way I'm reading it, you can pull up to 40 gallons of purples in Sonoma Mendo and Humboldt.  So a big trash can full per person.  No limit for that specified section of Caspar cove.

I think letter c is saying it's ok for someone to possess as much urchin as they want to... say for instance if several people gift their bag limit (40 gal each person) at the end of a harvesting day, and you want a literal truckload of purples (like for fertilizer or something).

That’s what I figured those pesky purples have taken over

So, in practice, you can pretty much pull as many purples as you want/need.
