General Talk / Re: The real Hobie bungee cord
« on: Today at 02:33:51 PM »
Anyone know where to buy bungee cord? I am talking about what Hobie uses.
NRS bungee is no good and a few places I bought even amazon is not good compare to what Hobie uses.
Yes, I checked with CCK, they don't have Hobie bungee.

Good question I just make due with a limp bungee.
Tie a knot or two in the cord to tighten up. Gets one thru a season and more.

Good call

Nice fish.
I was out there as well today.

Are you using separate game clips for each fish?  Seems like a great idea...

I have the trident heavy duty clip and it works great no need for 2 stringersÖ I think itís on Amazon too. https://www.diversdirect.com/p/5-16-hd-fish-stringer?gclid=CjwKCAjwjtOTBhAvEiwASG4bCM7XRU1m_gxfBmT0EekeXs16YmgoWc5dmyx3thvgyypGMODTaDbtKRoCaX4QAvD_BwE

Last year, I had two fish over 30Ē on one clip.  Both thrashed and managed to unclip the loop.  Luckily didnít lose the fish.  Helps having an empty spare clip after the 1st or 2nd fish.

Kevin

Yeah,

I am going to get another clip tomorrow...
Thanks for the inspiration!

That breaks off frequently and doesn't matter.

Do you prefer LM over Rockaway? Those rock look no bueno

LM always: close to fishing grounds and easier to cart.
Just need to be mindful of rocks.

Iíve always launched at Rockaway and found it easy. Maybe try Linda mar next time

An unrelated question... What do you use to scale the fish? The only thing I've got seems kind of large to carry on my kayak...

One can make a custom sized scaler using wood or plastic and bottle caps

Was looking for a fish scaler thanks

I tried several different types and ended with Brass Fish Scaler.  It is easy and safe to use on the kayak.

General Talk / Re: Squid?
« on: April 07, 2022, 09:52:30 AM »
I got a lot of squid last year in the summer time. I believe thatís the best time for them. Just look for tiny dots on fish finder and put a squid jig down. If the squid boats are out they are usually there. I think itís a little early right now. They usually hang around longer than herring.

Safety First / Re: Surf kayak class recommendation
« on: March 27, 2022, 09:02:06 AM »
It was a fun day for sure! The paddle signaling and communication from someone on shore really helped with landing. Never tried back paddling when in the soup zone and it made timing the waves easier. Broaching, is something possible even on a heavy outback was able to ride my first landing in. Learned to keep your arms tight and lean into the wave. I tend to panic in the surf zone and stop paddling will work on relaxing more. My paddle leash is too large and gets in the way with landing going to skip it or use a small paracord. Taking this class increased my confidence and made me want to practice  even more.  Super useful class and highly recommended. Those were some key takeaways for me muir and Bolinas launches should be easier now.

Use lexel, I have a similar keel guard and it holds up well over time. I donít think you will ever need to replace it honestly.

I am pretty sure they charge for repairs. I called them within 6 months of purchasing and told me to send it in. When they got it they told me there was around $50 charge but was able to get this waived because they didnít tell me that initially. Now got another small hole in the crotch may need to send it in again or just switch to a semi dry suit
