Curious as well!  YouTube makes it look like OB is *THE* place  :smt044  But there must be others.  I was going to try sometime the beaches south of HMB and see if they can be snared there, which seems likely since its close to where I crab on the water.

Welcome back! :smt003  I'm personally choosing to stay away from being on the water this weekend due to the king tides.  Going to be exploring some areas for tide pools and maybe poke poling, and some shore fishing.  Looking forward to your first outing report  :smt003

Great post, raising awareness and educating people on safety!  This is definitely something you should try before it just happens unexpectedly.  Knowing your prior success will make it easier to succeed again when you really need it.

Second that!  Evenings in the winter can be down right awesome times to hit the water.  Keep checking the weather, join a hookup, get sum!

Another way to put it is I did a Crab and Fish combo last year around this time out of Monterey.  For the 10 anglers on board, we all got one crab after pulling 10 pots from like 200fow.

Anything is possible!  :smt003  But I think it's just not worthwhile crabbing in SC.  Of the wharf I can say i've caught some small dungies, few odd spider crabs, and rock crabs.  But never anything I was going to eat basically.  From what I know the crab are out there but very deep, and it's just too much effort for too little pay out.  Personally, I feel like HMB is the closest place I'll crab from a kayak.  And it's fairly worth it, i've always been able to get some dungies in HMB during the early season.  It's also been a ghost town compared to other places this year due to the regulation changes.

The lows are in the evening, which can be fun still exploring at dusk.  I have a flashlight with UV LED's and it's pretty cool to see many things that fluoresce the light like shells and anemones, crabs, and other things. My favorite place for tide pooling has always been the Bean.  But Monterey sounds fun too, as I've been watching YouTube videos on Native American sites in Monterey, and want to do some low tide exploring of them.  But, it's also opening for Steelhead, so might be doing that as well.

Whatever you do, don't drag your yak down those ramps.  They are like cheese graters  :smt044

That's a lot of pulling!  Man cant wait to use traps again!

Nice score from the shore!  :smt003  Hoping to do some of that this winter during the off season  :smt004
