General Talk / Aluminum reel corrosion question
« on: September 13, 2022, 10:23:56 AM »
I’m noticing a lot of corrosion on the finishing of my Avet reel and was wondering if anyone here has tried to re-anodized their reels or know of a place that can do this. DIY involves messing around with acid and electrolysis...and while I’m not too thrilled about getting chemical burns, I'd be willing to give it a try if it's somewhat easy to do. Already tried a vinegar bath, but didn't do a thing. Appreciate your suggestions.

General Talk / how do you test your Shark Shield?
« on: May 15, 2022, 08:48:22 AM »
hey shark shield owners, how do you test that your unit is properly working without zapping yourself from grabbing the antenna tail or purchasing their tester? I've got a voltage meter, but not exactly sure where to place the probes.

« on: February 03, 2022, 03:42:58 PM »
hi all!

I'm posting for a newbie here at NCKA.  He isn't able to post here yet, but he would like to share some extra herring (~10lbs) that he picked up.  His reply will have the details. Cheers!

Quite sad. We have a first hand look into what's happening and it doesn't look good for the near future.

For Sale / CLAIMED - Gaff owned by a special person
« on: July 12, 2021, 11:57:49 AM »
Cleaning some things out and I have a gaff that was given to me by my next door neighbor before she moved, Jacky Douglas of the Wacky Jacky. This 92 yr old can pretty much out-fish anyone here...at least for salmon. Ironically, I've never been on her charter boat. Wanted to offer this here as I don't have a use for it. It's a big gaff and not intended to use on a kayak.

PM me.

General Fishing Tips / Chilling salmon after bleeding/gutting
« on: September 01, 2020, 09:24:19 AM »
hey salmon slayers - so I know many of us chill salmon on ice in a cooler bag right after bleeding/gutting it. But I also know some (including myself and even a few charter boats like Tigerfish) run there catch through cool seawater...in our case, off the side of our yaks. I don't really notice degradation in the meat doing this vs times I've iced it in a bag.

Is one method better than the other for preserving the quality of the meat?

General Fishing Tips / Launching from Ocean Beach SF
« on: August 15, 2020, 09:25:18 AM »
Wait what? Sounds crazy but today I saw a small fleet working it about a half mile from Seal Rock. Looks like they were going for Salmon instead of Hali with some whales breaching. Swells were at 1ft and looks totally launchable. Anyone ever try this? Seems like there’s a small window to do this.

General Fishing Tips / Tackle Binder/Storage
« on: July 26, 2020, 08:29:12 AM »
hey folks, how do you guys store your tackle/rigs when on the salt?

I'm currently using a cheapie tackle binder (w/ ziploc-like plastic sleeves), but noticed some areas are rusting and water seems to easily get inside. I do like the size as it's just big enough for me to store dodgers/flashers as well.
