I transport my kayak in the bed of my pickup, which is nice because I can rig it up at home and all I have to do is slide it out onto the cart when I get to the launch spot. My Hook4 FF is on a ram mount with a 1.5" ball in a short section of track.

Last night I was loading up in the dark and didn't feel like fiddling with the power/transducer cables so I just stuck the FF onthe ball and tightened down the clamp. All seemed good.

Just as i was stepping into the kayak out in the delta this morning at 630am i realized the FF wasnt there. And neither was the ball. Which means that the little t-bolt loosened up, the ball slid out of the track and I lost the FF head somewhere between Dixon and Rio vista. :(

If I had connected just one of the cables it would have acted like a leash and held on to the FF.

I loaded up and retraced my drive all the way home and back to Rio Vista but didnt find it.

Cliff notes, dont trust your track mounted accessories on bumpy roads. Hopefully this might save someone else from the same fate. On the bright side, I upgraded to a Hook 5, should be here in a few days. Lol
