Ever been there?  The Ohio River has a good current in it around Louisville and lots (an lots) of barge traffic - those can dig a hole in the water that a tanker would envy and the holes take a long time to settle down.  I didn't like being in the Ohio in a 20-foot powerboat and can't imagine being in it in a canoe or kayak.

I'd suggest looking at the rivers and creeks that flow into the Ohio and kayaking there.  I haven't been in Louisville in 20 years and the area has changed immensely, so I can't help you pinpoint a spot.  Sorry.

My oldest daughter lives in Clarksville Indiana I've been fishing different rivers and lakes there every year I go... Just trying to do it in a yak this time I got a good idea of where on Ohio river I want to gothe times ive been there I've never seeing it to high or flowing very fast even with the gates open up river. But won't know until I show.

There was a guy on here who moved to Kentucky, I think. Trying to remember his name...?
EDIT: I was thinking of Josh TamFish but he moved to Arkansas.
