Got a problem with my Hook5 FF draining my SLA battery within 5hrs or less.  Was thinking of purchasing a 21ah SLA battery to keep up with the new fish finder , but I came across this on EBay is it worth it to go lithium ? Granted lithium batteries are wayyyy expensive this kind of leads me to think “ is this too good to be true” it’s made in China, but just about  everything is also.

I see it says preorder. Will you have to wait long? I believe you will need a LiFePo4 battery charger to go with it also. If it’s a quality battery then it’s worth it. Less weight and it should last longer. I got my wife a SLA battery to recharge her iPad on and she killed it her first trip. That doesn’t happen with LiFePo4.

What ah is your sla?  The hook5 must draw way more than the 4, my 8ah drains after 8 hrs.  Go figure, I've been using the power save feature.  I use a 15ah for the livewell and it goes all day so far.

I've got an LiFePO4 battery (different brand) and love it. It charges quickly, and has a constant voltage. It's supposed to last a long time, so should be cheaper than SLA in the long run. Mine has been going for about 5 years without a problem. IMHO, it's the best type of battery for a kayak.
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

it’s an old 7ah... need a new battery anyway  yea the Hook5 is an energy hog,  think I’m just gonna go for it.  I want a battery that can atleast survive on 2 trips without a charge. Think I’ll just go for the  20ah lifepo battery...peace of mind is expensive lol

Yeah switch to LiPO about 4yrs ago & never look back. My Hook5 last about two days.

I would hesitate before buying that battery. I can't find anywhere where it says what the ah rating is. They call it a sealed lithium ion battery, a term I haven't seen used before. They say no maintenance for a year. What does it need? I haven't seen maintenance required for other lithium batteries. It refers to cold cranking amps rather than ampere hours. It might be perfectly usable for a fish finder. I'd just want more info before I gave them money.

Probably not the cheapest battery you can find but they aren't motorcycle starting batteries either. I just got mine so I haven't used them yet. A lithium motorcycle battery could work but I would want to know how many ah I'm getting for my money. Some motorcycle batteries give an ah range because they're comparing them to lead acid. They give the equivalent lead acid ah number (higher) and the lithium ah number (lower) so you'll know the smaller lithium battery is equal to a larger lead acid battery.

Don’t just look at the rating itself. Look for a reputable battery maker, they rate their battery to true Ah rating.

I say this for the fact that I have opened numerous battery packs.
When I have more time, I’ll give more details.

Yes, cutting edge. I wonder if one of the electrical engineer guys could tell us how's much energy a FF uses so we would know how long 1 ah would last. Then we could figure how many ah are needed for the length of time we plan to fish. Of course it would vary depending on your FF model. Maybe we could come up with a reasonable rule of thumb so to speak.

You could ask them about the battery. What kind of chemistry is it? LiFePo4 or something else. How many ampere hours is it? Do they recommend it for marine use would be three good questions.

I got this 10ah for over 4yrs & still going strong (& I think lots of people on this site does now).
I bought another one for long trips & back up also.
Worth every [emoji385]!!!
