Kayak Diving and Spearfishing / El Capitan state beach
« on: August 07, 2018, 06:48:28 PM »
My brothers and I are staying at El Capitan and we seem to be having trouble locating fish. Out of 6 dives we have caught one halibut. We haven’t seen really anything except for short halibut. We Have dove at Mesa road Refugio and leadbetter. We want to find some calicos or more bottom fish. Any recommendations?

Kayak Diving and Spearfishing / Been a little bit + Mexico trip
« on: July 26, 2018, 10:38:01 AM »
It has been a while since I posted on here, been super busy with school and standardized testing I haven’t really been able to dive. I finally got to dive yesterday in Mexico for some Mahi mahi. Unfortunately I didn’t shoot any because they were really small and I figured I could let them grow and get them some other time. Anyways I’m glad to be posting again and hope to hir Monterey sometime soon!

Kayak Diving and Spearfishing / How did I miss..
« on: February 28, 2018, 11:22:36 AM »
The swell looked small at pleasure point so me and my brothers went out to go look in some holes where we have shot eels and rock cod. The holes are in about 6-7 feet of water so we were pretty close to the surf because of this I dont keep my gun loaded until I see a fish that I want to shoot. At pleasure point when I have been surfing there has been a lot of bait in the water and you could also see it while we were diving. It was getting kind of dark and we decided to head in, on my way in I decided to check the bottom in about 6 feet of water. When I dropped there it was probably a 24 inch striper staring back at me I tried to line up a shot but of course my gun wasnt loaded  :smt010. I came up and screamed to my brothers we got all excited and then I loaded my gun and started snorkeling in and there it was again... lined up a shot and missed!!! :smt013. Oh well hopefully I can get out there soon to get that fish or maybe go with my surf rod!

Kayak Diving and Spearfishing / Lovers point and first ling!!!
« on: December 30, 2017, 06:27:19 PM »
Went out with my brothers today and decided to do two separate dives at the same location. We were blessed with 35 foot viz, the first dive we caught some nice rockcod and perch for our crab pots tomorrow and I saw a big ling and when I pulled the trigger... I missed  :smt013 went it extremely frustrated. We lost the tip to my brothers gun so we went and bought another one and I got a new firing line for my pathos because the other line wouldn't fit in the really small hole. Anyways the second dive we went out into about 30 feet and didn't see much, again we got a good amount of crab bait and then I looked into a whole and there she was... the head of a big lingcod. I knew if I missed it I would never forgive myself so I took my time and blasted it in the head and if measured 29 inches!!! I screamed so loud when I got it someone thought we were in trouble and called the fire department and there were about 5 cop cars and 3 fire trucks that came up to where we were diving and asked if everything was okay. And then they drove away. Ended up being the best dive I have had in a while and a great way to end the year!

« on: November 15, 2017, 07:35:45 AM »
Hey I was just looking at the report for Stillwater and the swell seems like it's very small, but the tide is just ripping, do you guys find that ride makes a big deal on viz? Because I don't know if it is worth heading out yet.

Kayak Diving and Spearfishing / Stillwater 10/7
« on: October 09, 2017, 07:30:54 PM »
Me and my buddy woke up at 6 loaded up the kayaks and drove on down to Stillwater cove. We launched the yaks around 9 went out. Swell wasn't hitting the cove at all really so our hopes were high. We got to our spot and hopped in. From the surface I could see about 15 feet but when I got to the bottom I couldn't see the tip of my gun  :smt013. We tried to work with it but couldn't do we decided to quit so we don't get any further behind. :smt012 That first ling has yet again escaped  :smt011. Oh well it was still great to be out and learn the waters but we will be out there again soon to get that ling!

Kayak Diving and Spearfishing / Honest opinions Needed!
« on: October 05, 2017, 03:54:00 PM »
So I was just looking at the weather forecast for stillwater cove... not ideal  :smt010. But I still want to make an effort to make it out in search for that ling  :smt007. I have only been out there once and it was pretty nice, but whats your opinion on the safety this weekend for a newbie and a group of people coming with. Thank you!

But if was a great test run and I think we are gonna try otters tomorrow and hope to be out next week!
