Recipes / Lingcod Taco recipes?
« on: July 23, 2020, 10:28:23 AM »
My SO is spending time with me soon. She expressed a dire craving for Lingcod Tacos.

I’d like to make something from scratch without packets. And something different than the ordinary taco recipe. I looked through the first 15 pages and found nothing.

Anyone wanna share a secret recipe?

Thanks!

General Talk / Funeral for my Brother
« on: January 07, 2020, 08:02:05 AM »
Hi everyone,

My brother Matt passed away on December 31st, by way of suicide. The funeral is going to be this Saturday at 12PM;

St Stephen's Lutheran Church
2500 Soquel Ave, Santa Cruz

Anyone is welcome to come if they feel like it. As some of you know, he and I were very close and fished together a lot and went camping and hiking together frequently.

He was an addict and after surgery on his spine and neck, the pain medication ended up being a gateway to stronger drugs. Then a whole host of mental health issues occurred as a result. He is at peace now, but I miss him. I know I haven't been around a while (and probably won't be anymore because I've been dealing with knee bursitis for 7 of the last 18 months) but I know some of you knew him.

Anyway, you're welcome to come by.

Recipes / Salmon Carcass soup
« on: August 21, 2019, 11:46:05 AM »
I'm about to thaw out one of the salmon I got. I'm going to fillet it and smoke some if it, eat the rest raw.

I want to make soup with the carcass. Any good recipes?

For Sale / Lots of high end fishing rods/reels for sale
« on: June 02, 2019, 08:19:23 AM »
Adding prices shortly... PM me for more pics but it'll be at my own time since I work way too much and often can't be home due to showings at the house. I'm located in Dublin and currently have no transportation. I'll ship REELS only if you appear to have a forum presence / or I know you from a tourney / etc if you paypal me first.

Haggle at your own risk, you can make an offer but I'm really busy so if someone makes me a better offer I'm willing to settle for right away I'm not going to give you a chance to counter it just because you asked first. I want to have this go as smoothly and quickly as possible...

For Sale / Hobie Outback 2018 $2200
« on: February 18, 2019, 08:15:53 AM »
Hey guys,

I have a Hobie Outback 2018 for sale.

I have the rectangular hatch, Boonedox with sand tires, upgraded 180 fins and rudder. I also have the Cradles for it, which I use to store in my garage.

Slate Blue.

I am, in fact, leaving the sport (one last trip during Gimme Shelter). Lots of reasons, involving a move to Ohio in August.

I have a lot of other stuff I will be selling. But I figured I'd start with this one.

Pics will be added at some point but it's basically brand new...

General Talk / Fishing Trips outside CA (and internationally)
« on: December 24, 2018, 09:34:00 AM »
Hey guys,

I've done the fishing thing in British Columbia last year and that was a great time with lots of salmon and halibut. I'm going to Alasaka for 15 days in 2020 which will include fishing in the rivers and ocean, and a lot of hiking.

But we're trying to plan something for 2019 Julyish. June-August really. Right now our inclination is to go back to Winter Harbor BC since we felt like we could have spent more time in that area (we were mostly on the Port Hardy side). But I'd like some other ideas and who better to ask than a bunch of fishermen I know.

I'm indififerent to whether it's kayak fishing or boat fishing. The only criteria is no long range trips (rules out most of SoCal / Mexico tuna trips), around $5k per person (a little more is OK, less is better), and no more than 12 hours of travel time (Ruled out a lot of things unfortunately, such as New Zealand and Thailand)

Very interested to hear what you all come up with outside the standard Mexico Tuna / Alaska/Canada Salmon trips. It looks like the Alaska limits are kind of crappy for 2019 (only one king annual limit..?) so I'm inclined towards fishing Winter Harbor if we can't come up with anything cooler.

We're quite content doing CNR fisheries so it doesn't have to be a meat farming trip.

General Talk / Kayak Guide in SoCal, Death Valley tips
« on: October 10, 2018, 03:16:31 PM »
I'm going to LA in the second week of December.

Looking for a kayak fishing guide there for one day, fishing for whatever they fish for down there. Recommendations appreciated!

And if anyone's been to Death Valley, what are some must-see places? We have one day there, 7AM to 6PM due to daylight hours. We will be coming in from the western side (Lone Pine). We'd like to do some short 5-10 mile hikes there.

For Sale / Tool Chest
« on: October 03, 2018, 03:07:53 PM »
This thing costs $1100 New. Sure it's not new but it's indestructible so it's literally exactly the same as a brand new one in function, so I'd say this is a good deal.

We don't do large commercial projects anymore so not needed anymore.

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/tls/6714246743.html

I know it's not Kayak related but I've seen a bunch of you get a boner for this stuff so I figured maybe someone wants to buy for whatever reason.

I'll be updating this randomly with stuff as I remember... No pics yet but at some point I will.

Pickup in Dublin

Malone kayak cart $40

Plano 1812 box with rod holders mounted on the back (3 rods) $10 each (have two) 1- pending Smokeonthewater 1- pending Fishcomb

Yakima LongArm Truck Bed Extender $120

Malone HighRise Kayak Storage system (have two sets) $25 each

Sole LCR Recumbent Bike $700 this sells for $1600+ new and is only one year old.

Predator PDL $1600 (see other post)

Pro Angler 14 H-Rail (one side only) $60
I used this to give myself a 38" long h-rail on my hobie outback. This lets me mount my FF, Gopro, downrigger, and tackle box on the h-rail using just two  small holes for  screws. The total length is something like 47" and it's curved rather than straight (which worked since it follows the curve of the outback).

Gimme Shelter 12 Team Tournament Signups

Only registered tournament competitors can particpate.

I'll be taking over this year for the team signups. I'd appreciate making it easy on me by following the directions. If I mess up or you want to complain, please make sure you speak to me on the side of my head that's not deaf.

Sponsors:
At this time, none. If someone wants to volunteer to gather stuff and bring it to GS, please PM me.

Prizes:
Your name immortalized in a trophy trough! And maybe more if someone steps up on the sponsorship side.

Teams will:
Know where their teammates are during the tournament.
Make sure all teammates safely land and are accounted for.
Assist or coordinate assistance of any teammate in need.
Coordinate transportation of teammates to and from the launch ramp (reduce traffic and vehicles at ramp)

Each team should have at minimum:
One experienced teammate
Spare paddle
Bilge pump
Tow/throw rope
Redundant navigation
Redundant VHF radios

How to sign up:
1. Figure out your team and team name.
2. Make sure you are not going to change your team name.
3. Make sure you are not going to change your team name.
4. Post your team info on this thread in the following format:
Last name, First name, NCKA handle, Team name (the commas are important).
5. If you are signing up multiple teammates, then use a new line for each individual.

Team Scores:
Eric will give me the scorecard at the end of the tournament.

Formula would be as follows: Points for Person 1 + Person 2 + Person 3 / 3 = average
If someone in your team doesn't post fish, that will count as 0. For instance;

3 Person team:
80 + 90 + 0 / 3 = 56.67 point team total
75 + 95 + 50 / 3 = 73.34 points

2 Person team:
90 + 95 / 2 = 92.5 point team total
100 + 0 / 2 = 50 points

No limits on how many people in a team.

Please don't PM me unless absolutely necessary, it'll be easier for me to keep track of all the information if it's in this post. Thank you.

Tiebreaker will be done by strip blackjack. Or arm wrestling. Or flipping a coin. Or maybe pin the donkey, and two of you will be the donkey. We'll see!

For Sale / NCKA Special: Free HVAC maintenance in the Bay Area
« on: April 12, 2018, 08:20:41 AM »
Hi all,

I am offering free HVAC maintenance for anyone around Dublin. Limited to 10 people, it’s being offered in other places so it’s not just 10 NCKA’ers.

Within the area of Livermore-Fremont-Hayward-Oakland-Concord/Walnut Creek. We will go outside this radius for a discounted maintenance charge, the free offer only applies in this area.

We will clean, test, and adjust your system as part of our routine maintenance. Repairs will get a 15% discount (whether preventative or  because something’s broken.)

You are under no obligation to perform the repairs or do anything beyond the free maintenance, but if you want us to do the work we suggest then we will make it happen!

The only thing we request is that you fill out a survey and send it back to us at the end. I am trying to test my employees and get constructive feedback on their performance. They will not know they are being evaluated. Sort of a secret shopper deal.

If interested PM me. My company is Barker Mechanical Services based in Dublin. Thank you.
