General Fishing Tips / Re: HMB Crab Newb
« on: November 25, 2017, 07:55:05 PM »
Hoop nets don't work too well for dungies because they run off of them really quickly. I have been crabbin all my life. When we switched to pots we slayed them. They have some awesome collapsible crab pots that are super light weight and great for kayaks. I was there yesterday and limited out in only 50-60ft of water. The jetty always produces a ton of rock crabs. Sounds like good times. Be safe!

Thanks,
PY

Welcome Brother and look forward to a group of newbies getting together for a safer first few trips. This site is awesome especially the safety section and rigging sections which educate a lot. Safe and happy fishing.

Thanks,
PY

Report that to the fish and game and to the harbor master! That has been a problem for years in HMB. Since I was a kid and before I am sure. Years ago Dad and I saw someone throw one of our pots back in the water as we approached. Dad chased him down and me with a graff in my hand threatened to board their boat and run the Graf through their guts! They shit their pants and needless to say headed straight to the dock and I am sure left quickly. Nowadays threatening people isn't the way to do it. Take their information and a pick or goPro video and turn them in so they pay the price for stealing and poaching because I am sure they don't care about limits either!

Thanks,
PY

Crash,

After reading the post on your link I understand much better what the issues are with the Trophys! Turkeys does seem a bit outlandish. Thanks for the link and the education.

General Talk / Re: What size stock pot do you recommend?
« on: November 12, 2017, 07:40:47 PM »
I use a 40qt pot with a big camping style burner. I add two jalapeños split down the middle two onions sliced into 1/4 inch rounds, a small bunch of parsley and a couple table spoons seasoning salt. Once crabs are in and water reaches boiling point again another 5-10 mins and you will be feasting on some delicious crab! Portagee recipe!!!

Thanks,
PY

Welcome Brother!

I installed nav lights, spot light and interior working lights all on separate switches. Yes all led and very efficient on the battery. Anyway, WELCOME. Hope to meet some Yakers and get some warriors to go fishing with soon.

Thanks,
PY

Good thing I won't be scoring any of those off of my Yak! Oh, and yes some of the fines seem ridiculous and more about money making than environmental protection.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: Hmb this week

We went out today and pulled limits. I went Friday and it was a little bit choppy but today was good. Good luck out there and be careful with all the boaters running at high rates of speed. Have your flags visible and have that horn handy! Have Fun!

Thanks,
PY

General Fishing Tips / Re: Crab bait - Rockfish carcass
« on: November 02, 2017, 09:31:44 PM »
Crabs are scavengers and rock fish carcasses are money. I have been crabbing my whole life and we always keep our carcasses after we fillet our rock fish. I also use Macrel too if I don't have rock fish leftovers. Weather doesn't look too good for the opener so looks like I'll be taking a few days off next week.

Thanks,
PY

Thanks for that great report! I purchased a set of stand n' fish pontoons to add stability because I did like Joe and rolled it. Did do a self rescue but at least he had someone with him. I was alone which I will not do again for a little while. Nice fish boys!!

Thanks,
PY
